Looking at pics from SVG, I came across this:

What in the world was that plane doing there?

Hmmm ... good question. Maybe being ferried across the Atlantic?

"Maybe being ferried across the Atlantic?"

Why would a US airline have a Canadian aircraft ferried via Stavanger? I don't think they'd send it there of all places for the last touch ups either.

This is purely a guess on my part, but given that it has a pre-delivery Canadian registration, perhaps it was being used for a demonstration to some European airline. Given the timing of the photo, could it have been at Farnborough?

SVG gets alot of foreign 737s, due to the big P&W plant there, as well as BU being superior on 737 MX. But a CRJ?

Seeing this, I can believe FoxBravo's answer:

I emailed the photographers of both pics to be sure  Smile

Like Bugs Bunny used to say, "Maybe it took a wrong turn in Albuquerque!"

 Nuts

I'm going with FoxBravo . . . demo flight . . .

Well, although Farnborough was just a couple of weeks after that photo was taken, it looks like Bombardier displayed a CRJ-700 in ASA colors:

So, given the timing of the photo at Palma de Mallorca, I'd say the US Airways plane was simply on a sales tour of Europe.

It was believed to be there as a military charter of some kind. Due to the NATO facilities east of SVG, the NATO Joint Warfare Centre close to Jåttå. I got a email from the photographer of the photo, Anders Presterud on Nov 6th 2004 - when I asked him the same question. He told me a lot of military a/c's come to SVG due to the NATO Joint Warfare Centre.

I hope this answered your question KaiGywer.

Best regards,

WF2BNN

Edit: I must make it clear that Anders Presterud was not sure of this, so FoxBravo might be right that it was in fact on a demo tour. Maybe that makes more sense as the US military has plenty of it's own a/c's.

FoxBravo is correct. Bombardier was showing the plane to some potential European customers.

Hello!

I took the photo of the CRJ in Stavanger. I have to admit that I was really surprised to see US Airways here. (although I have seen ex-US Airways aircraft here before.)

WF2BNN, as far as I remember you asked what this aircraft did at Sola:  Smile

And I'm pretty sure it was a NATO related visit.

Unlike the Gulfstream, the CRJ was parked on the civilian apron. I can't imagine Bombardier were looking for customers here in Stavanger, so it was probably only a fuel/night stop before crossing the pond. Maybe they just wanted to "try" Stavanger by night, having the once in a life time opportunity.  Smokin cool

CRJ-700 cn 10150 was registered on Bombardier as C-FBLQ on June 29, 2004, deleted July 8 and registered N706PS with PSA/US Airways Express.

I can't seem to find any official info (on e.g. Bombardier web) verifying this was a sales trip, but I came across a flightsim site saying C-FBLQ was on some sort of demo flight, ...just to confirm what A330323X said.

Best regards,

Anders

You are absolutely right LN-ATC, mixed up the photos.

Will make sure my info is correct in the future.

LN-ATC, thanks for the email. Wonder if WF handled them? We usually did a lot of one time customers. Plus the fact that the CRJ is in many ways closely related to our Dash 8.
