The trick to
DFW is getting into the American Airlines network -- not trying to compete with it. Feed
AA, you'll do
OK.
AA is not in a position to fly to
HKG, and the One World connections via
NRT are not very good.
OK a few code shares, but out of network flights.
HKG would provide better access to Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia... not to mention Southern China.
Who has run off from
DFW long-haul:
Delta (
FRA) --
AA and Lufthansa stayed in, market would not support 3
Air
NZ --
AA opened
DFW-
HNL-
AKL/
SYD
Thai -- Northwest Orient opened
DFW-
SFO-
NRT
NWA --
AA gots some 747SPs and opened
DFW-
NRT n/s
Sabena -- bankrupt
Air France --
DL partner, after 9-11 not enought demand...
AA puts (sometimes double daily) 777s on
CDG route
JAL -- 9-11 happens, then
AA opens
DFW-
KIX and then goes double daily
DFW-
NRT... all code sharing with
AA
(British Caledonian was acquired by
BA, so that doesn't count)
Qantas and Cathay would fit into the model at
DFW the way they do at
LAX.
