In the US, what are the busiest class C and class D airports in terms of arrivals and departures per day? Also what is the least busy class B airport in terms of arrivals and departures per day?
For the busiest class C my guess is PDX, MKE, or MDW and for the busiest class D my guess is TEB or VNY. For the least busy class B I'd have to guess MSY or MCI.

I think the busiest class D is probably APA (Centennial in Denver). SNA in Socal is a pretty busy class C.

Actually VNY is in fact the busiest non-commercial airport in the country if not the world. BUR is also pretty busy as it has flight coming and going every hour

Class D is an airport with a control tower. It is the most basic towered airspace, usually with no radar (I think). Just a tower. Class C is a bit more complex, for bigger airports with bigger and faster traffic. It has tower, but then also an approach radar control to sequence planes, etc. Class B is almost the same as class C, but much bigger and a bit more complex. That is a very basic run-down of the surface-based towered airspaces. There is also class E airspace which is everywhere in the US at or above 1200' AGL, with it sometimes down to 700' AGL. This is controlled airspace (ie. you should be able to contact ATC for services if needed). Class G is completely uncontrolled and goes from the surface up to the floor of the class E. Class E goes up to 17999' MSL, where at 18000' and above is all class A. All the different types of airspace have various entry require,ents and weather minimums for VFR traffic.

Class C and D are classes of controlled airspace over an airport...Class B is also used in this way but is for the really busy airports...

For Class C, I'll have to say BNA. That's like a hub for WN, and the last time I flew in there(as PIC, not pax on an airline) they were using all 3 parallel runways at the same time. It was crazy busy, but only a Class C airport.

I know that GFK is always one of the top airports in the country in terms of takeoffs and landings with all of the UND flights. I think last year they were #19 or #20. Gotta love UND!

I know PRC is like the 34th busiest in the nation in takeoffs, and landing. So I would presume it is up there in the busiest class D's. You can thanks ERAU for making PRC what it is!

Looks like MDW is the busiest Class C based on enplanement criteria. Haven't located a 2004 ranking for airport operations to confirm on that criteria.
I'd also agree on VNY because I have heard it's the busiest GA airport, although again, I can't yet find a chart including GA ops too so it can be confirmed statistically.

I have total numer of movements for the centers, towers, and approaches for 2004 if someone could post them. I tried to post but all the facilities and numbers ran together. I tried to get them to align but they wouldn't.
