RE: Next Order For The 787?

783 is the perfect replacement for the short haul high capacity LH routes right? LH has been screaming for years about a new plane for this segment right? Do you hear of any discussions between Boeing and LH about a potential order for this aircraft? No, and it's the only viable replacement on the horizon!!! The Director of Flight Ops for LH went to Seattle last year to attend a 7E7 briefing and actually made a statement to the press saying LH's passenger ops were going exclusively Airbus. LH's press relations team went beserk and told everyone the guy was just kidding. I disagree, I think he was just tired or drunk and let the truth slip. Next, LH had a very famous ad in its flight magazine going back 2-3 years clearly putting down the 777 as a dangerous long haul aircraft. This was the famous 4 engines vs. 2 engines ad. Then they went out and bought the 330 for lighter long haul ops. Come on guys, the facts speak for themselves. LH will never buy a new Boeing passenger jet in our lifetime and to think otherwise is simply delusional.

Okay the 763s could be replaced by the larger A358, but I have a feeling the A358 is a bit to big as 1:1 replacement, but its' all up to AC. Now the A350 is definitely not a 767-200 replacement. It's way to big. That's why I tink the 787 may have a better chance with AC.

I agree, the B787 with its variants would be a great fit for AC. One thing is for sure, AC will need a replacement for their 67s - 200s and 300s in the next few years. Which one they will choose, who knows. I'm pulling for the 7E7.... I mean, 787  Big grin

The Chinese order started pre-A350 AFAIK

So, they could have decided to switch the order to the 350 if the airplane was so compelling tothe 787 which it it isn't. Air Euorpa still ordered back in December so the Chinese Airlines had more than enough time to evaluate the 787 vs the 350.

The order was part of an outsourcing agreement from Boeing way back in June 2004. So long before the A350.

But sjoerd you must admit that the same goes for Airbus.

China will get a considerable chunk of design/manufactering the A350. A whole lot more than China's involvement with the 787.

5% work share... The 787 was a better fit for the Chinese than the A350.
Airbus or Boeing - it's all good to me!

There is plenty of time for the Chinese to order the A350.

It is very obvious that the Chinese want to be friends with everyone, both A and B got large orders lately.

Interesting thread you might want to read: https://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1933246/

It's not a done deal or anything but certrainly far from them having no possibility at all. I have my fingers crossed for a 787 order or a mix of the two.
