BAA & Star End Dispute Over LHR

Sat Jan 29, 2005 2:31 pm

BAA and Star have agreed a MOU for their operations at LHR.

Plan calls for all Star Alliance airlines to be settled in T1, the SkyTeam airlines, led by AF/KLM in T4, along with most members of Oneworld, and Virgin in T3. BA and QF would be in T5.

The first phase of the transfer will see UAL, ANZ, LOT, Asiana, ANA, Varig, and SAA in 2008. AC, LH & SAS in 2009 and TG & SQ moving in 2010/2011. BD is already at T1.(FT)

That's alot of UA and AC heavies at T-1, will they need to rebuild T-1 to accomodate a large number of 767/777's? Not to mention the SQ A380's!

T1 already has several 744 suitable stands and plenty to suit 767/330/340 size aircraft. Currently T1 hosts BA 744s & 767s, SA 744s & 346s, CY 330s & LY 777s & 744s.

does this settlement represent anything more that Star being convinced by BAA's original proposal or have they got something out of it - perhaps a promise of upgraded facilities in terminal 1??

Only BA and QF are going to T5.....No mention of T2 in all the re-organisation. Does this mean that the oldest terminal at LHR is going to be substantially revamped?
