It looks Like a CO paint scheme only becuase COPA is a sister company to CO and they order their brand new planes that way on purpose. It is not an ex-CO plane.

Funny, my Continental is winning more trans-Atlantic awards than your KLM.
How's that for European snobbery?

About two years ago, at CDG an AF A320 coming from TLV was sevrely damaged when few seconds after landing it Hit something on the runway 26L.

The "something" was 4 wildboar, an adult female and her 4 kids ...  Wow!

The A320 could leave the Rnwy, stopped on the Taxiway and had to be towed to the gate because of the damages caused on the main gear and hydraulic system....

I went to Africa last summer, and there's much more than dogs on the runway, while taxiing there were plenty of gazelle running across the runway in Serengeti, and this was in a Cessna 208, which a dog/gazelle would pose a bigger threat to than to a 737... here's what DOES happen though,

I think all of those dogs have heard of a place full of cats...Kathmandu!! Mybe they are trying to become stowaways to their dream destination. Now when pigs are on the runway we may have a problem Big grin. I know we have all said, When Pigs can fly..... Hopefully we will not be seeing any of those anytime soon.

RE: Dogs On The Runway!

Hi,

It happens sometimes here at Lisbon... normally the dogs enter the perimeter by a broken fence (or maybe they dig under) and wander about until they are chased away or caught.

Most funny one was with the CO flight to EWR last november, it was on the holding point for runway 03. A TP A319 landed and then a small dog starts to cross the taxiway in front of the CO 757. The following exchange was heard on the readio:

Tower: "Continental 65, cleared to line up and wait runway 03"
CO 65: "Roger, clerared to line up and wait... be advised, there is a dog in front of us heading to the runway"
Tower: "Roger sir. I'll notify the follow me"

The CO then holds for about a minute while the dog starts crossing the runway, still in front of him.

CO 65: "ready at runway 03, be advised dog is still crossing the runway"
Tower: "roger, Continental 65, report clear of the dog. Wind is XX at XX, cleared for takeoff runway 03"
CO 65: "CO65 is cleared of the dog, cleared for take off runway 03"

I swear those pilots were laughing when they contated approach after they were airborne! The most amusing exchange I've heard on the radio.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Regards,
Luis

AMS Schiphol is absolutely full of those little ones! An illness seems to have reduced their numbers a bit lately though.
Anecdote: when Viasa Airlines moved their simulator sessions to CCS instead of AMS, the guys would complain about the missing bunnies!

I was working an inbound flight from FLL a week or two ago that was delayed a good 45 minutes or so because of alligators on the runway. On a side note, a friend of mine that works at MCO told me once of how they'll have to turn around when driving to the freight house there due to gators on the road between the cargo facilities and the terminal.

I remember an Incident when our Aircraft was taxing into the Bay & a few dogs moved in between the Marshaller & the Aircraft. The Grd staff were concerned that if we try to scare the dogs they may run itowards the Engine out of confusion.Just then another Black stray rushed in from somewhere and scared them away & later came back accross the bay & sat there watching the Aircraft.
It was weird.I initially thought maybe we'd have a "Dog" hit Inspection comming up  Smile

I had a pack of coyotes delay one of my practise flights in Beverly Ma. They were sunning themselves on the numbers. The tower asked if we could encourage them to leave the runway. My instructor and I taxiied up to them and gunned the engine and they just laid there. (One gave us an annoyed look and put his head back down) I turned to my instructor and said "we just got diss'ed by a dog." I then put the brake on and brought it to full power about 40 feet from them. That annoyed them enough that they got up and moved off the runway.

Half an hour later we heard the tower telling an aircraft to hold in the pattern because the coyotes were back on the numbers.

Out here [Mumbai] there have been numerous attempts to hunt these stray dogs down, but typical AAI shoddy work that unless there is a media hype no action commences for a long period of time. All AAI have to do is block the fences on the Airport perimeter.

Vero Beach has (had?) turtles.I know,I landed on one of them with a Cherokee. St. Lucy to the south had jackrabbits as large as dogs, while Sebastian to the north had several horses.

In Norway,we see fairly often moose and reindeer on the airports.A moose can ruin your plane, maybe your entire day,as well!

Is their any specific task force at airports to get rid of them? Dogs, cats, deers, cows.... Or do they need snipers on top of the roof?

I was flying out of a small airport in Louisiana called Bogalusa, we had 2 dogs, one on each wing running beside us as we started our takeoff roll. They stayed with us until they couldn't keep up any longer.

Between the two runways 14 and 16 at Zurich airport there is a little forest. There used to live some deers, but they shot them all because of safety reasons.

A DHC8 from WF hit a deer at TRF. No damage to the plane I believe, but probably quite the clean up.

My dad once flew into either NBO or DAR (can't remember which as he used to fly to both regularly) and they had to hold while they chased giraffes off the runway.

I almost had a dog run away from me at SVG. A pax wanted her dog to be with her before the flight, so we just brought the kennel to the plane empty. When she boarded she gave us the dog and went inside the plane. Well, needless to say, the dog did not want to go in the kennel, slipped out of his collar and started running. Thankfully he ran up the stairs and back into the terminal and not out on the ramp. I ran after the dog and another passenger blocked the dog's way so I could catch up. Luckily the dog didn't bite him (just me, but I had gloves on so I didn't feel it), but the dog was scared to death and did his duties in the jetway. The other rampie went to get the pax while I ran after the dog and she came and helped us get the dog in the kennel.

Maybe L-188 will have more (better) details on this little story that resides somewhere back in my grey matter.

I think it was in Kenai (sp?), Alaska that they were having trouble with somebody destroying the taxi lights. Long story short, it turned out to be bears that just had a fascination with the color blue and swatted them for fun.
