BD 701/702 Cancelled 2/12

Sun Feb 13, 2005 12:10 pm

BD 701/702 (MAN-IAD-MAN) was cancelled today (2/12) due to aircraft problems. Does anyone have more info on what happened? The inbound flight seemed to be pretty booked. What happened to the outbound passangers? Were they rebooked on UA to LHR?

The aircraft went tech in Barbados yesterday, and had to overnight there. Hence the IAD cancellation.

I was hoping someone would shed some light on this. I guess we'll not be seeing anything unusual flying the ORD flight on Sunday then?

Tim.

Edit: IAD flight.

Flights to ORD, IAD, and LAS are all scheduled to depart on time from MAN on Sunday, so they must have gotten the plane to MAN by now.

Is that an Icelandair 752? Why isn't a Star partner operating that flight for BD? I assume the flight is still departing from IAD and not BWI where Icelandair flies from KEF. TF-FII at IAD would be a rare photo op.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It is an ICE 757 and should be at IAD at 1508 (for the MAN people, it positioned in last night as the BD9562 arriving around 2232).

Had a quick look, it's not due in to MAN until 00.10 from Barbados. The flight has been slightly retimed so it is on its way in.

Brings up a whole new question...when is BMI going to look at another aircraft?

This summer's ops are

7 x ORD
6 x IAD
2 x LAS
4 x BOM

That's nineteen ops out of 21 aircraft days, and it could even be twenty if LAS goes 3 x week. There isn't much room there for breakdowns or MX! Those A332 aircraft are working hard, and there are also positioning flights MAN-LHR to add in. The Air Canada service last year was done by BD and there was the option of routing customers via LHR for the three destinations, but Mumbai and Vegas aren't going to be as easy to play about with.

19 Ops out of 21 aircraft days? Thats just the Manchester operation as they are operating

Daily to Chicago
6 x weekly to Washington
2 x weekly to Las Vegas
2 x weekly to Barbados
1 x weekly to St Lucia
1 x weekly to Antigua

The 4 x weekly Bombay service requires a new aircraft!

I have read that BMI are planning to lease a LH A330 to plug the hole.

I assumed that BD would be pulling the four caribbean destinations to do the Bombay route with the aircraft. Certainly for the summer anyway until they find another crate.

I would think that option they have with Airbus would be converted to another A332 then, and a short term lease on one of those Pratt powered A330s from LH might be an idea. Either that or an LH A340.
