JAT -are They Still Operating?
IN a german forum one participant mentioned the "out" foe Serbia's JAT since this morning.The information seems though conflictual with Belgrad's airport info,seemingly still managing JAT flight. What's the situation?

Like most other major carriers, JAT employees are being faced with major cost cutting and concessions, or face liquidation of the airline. AFAIK, they're still flying.

The airline is flying, however, there is a possibility that a potential general strike might ground the entire fleet starting Friday.
Currently the airline serves 39 destinations in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The government has given an itself an ultimatum to sort out the problems or to liquidate the airline. remains to be seen what will happen next.

I'm really sorry for the people working for JAT, but this is a logical step to reform the former national, socialist carrier in order to attract foreign investors. I just hope they don't pull a "swiss" and have a clean new start.

Does JAT Airways still own part of or all of Macedonian Airlines. If so how is this going to affect Macedonian Airlines?

I share your sympathies but this was not just a logical step, it was simply the only option to save JAT from certain end that was looming ahead.
Operations, for now, are continuing normally and as per schedules.
With regards to clean new start, Mr Ilic - Serbia's Minister for Capital Investments (JAT falls under his reign), has said in an interview last night to a private TV station that he will do his outmost best to help JAT's "positive side remain flying high".
I share your sympathies but this was not just a logical step, it was simply the only option to save JAT from certain end that was looming ahead.
Operations, for now, are continuing normally and as per schedules.

I wouldn't worry, it appears that operations are running smoothly and are set to continue that way.

Now that the government is taking direct control of the company, it is good to know that any possibility of strikes have now been averted. It is evident that the government is going to significantly reduce the oversized workforce in JAT.
The first plan will be to offer financial incentives for those who decide to retire or leave the company, between February 21st and March 10th. Thereafter, if not enough people volunteered their departure from the company, the government will carry out layoffs in June. For the remaining excess workers, compensation will be in accordance to the law of the republic, where workers are compensated to the duration of employment in the company.
I think that this is the best possibility for the moment. It is a shame that it took so many years for the government to finally step in with a restructuring plan. Had they done this sooner, JAT would have been generating a lot more profit than it does today.
