BA To Accra Upgraded To 747 ''temporary''

Mon Feb 21, 2005 8:35 am

Yesterday witnessed the arrival of one of BA?s biggest aircrafts Boeing 747 jumbo jet on the Accra route instead of the usual 767. The 350-seater aircraft would be on the route between 17th February to 10th March 2005.

The introduction of the aircraft according to BA?s management in Ghana headed by Esi Annor-Sackey offers the world's largest airline a rare opportunity to reward its valued customers through the offerings of a jumbo offer. It has consequently reduced its minimum fare from $840 to $450.

"We are delighted to have this and hope the travelling public will be excited too."

"Offers such as the Jumbo offer are not unusual in the airline business. British Airways regularly gives such offers to show appreciation to its valued customers".

"Flying a 747, which is a bigger aircraft on the Accra route, offers us a good opportunity to give such an offer. The product offerings that come with the Jumbo fares are what have put us ahead of other carriers. Our customers trust us and we in turn reward customer loyalty,"

Yeah right, of course BA regularly just reduces its fares after nearly doubling capacity to show its customers how much it appreciates them!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy You have to admire this guy, he sure knows how to sound stupid. Why don't you just tell them that you have an overcapacity for the time being and that you will be reducing fares accordingly.

MMMMM... Please excuse my cynicism.

>>offers the world's largest airline a rare opportunity<<

Uh... BA isn't even the largest International airline in the world; Lufthansa took that title a few years back.

Meanwhile, the largest airlines in the World are AA, UA and DL, in that order...

BA can be said to be the largest internation airline of the world because its aircraft fly to every continent in the world including Australia which LH metal doesnt serve...so from that perspective BAs boasting is pretty true.

Also their B 744 inflight product is way way better than their B 763s and for a price tag which is $ 390 less than the regular fare, it definitely is a dam good deal. Overcapacity or not...the bottom line is that the fare is coming down...but also u can just imagine how much profit BA must be making if it used to charge $ 840 for LHR-ACC-LHR and now $ 450 which still I bet BA is making a small profit on.

I'm surprised that BA hasn't upgraded the ACC route on a permanent basis to a 777. That flight has one of the highest average load factors in the BA network. Every flight is full.

BA has upgraded its ACC flight on the 777 some of them routine via abidjan a while ago, a 767 was then deployed because the 777 was needed for the ABV route. sometimes BA economy fares can go for £1200 from past experience

I would agree that the ACC flt does have one of the highest load factors, but it's a bit much to say that every flt is full. If/when the route reaches the level that a T7 is seen as appropriate, then maybe it will be done, but the 767 does the job.

Once the 767s are fitted with the new interiors, they will be back on this route.

Overcapacity......explain that to the passengers flying to NBO, TPA and MCO who had their flights substituted to other carriers. There is no overcapacity at BA thats for sure. BA has operated 747s to ACC before and if you are suddenly increasing a flight from 767 to a 747 then you have to do something to sell those extra seats! Great promo for BA!!!!!
