MAD 1 Hr 40 Mins Enough For Connection

Hello guys,

I had initally scheduled for my ATL-MAD Delta 108 flight to depart at 5.45pm and arrive at 8.05 local, however, with all of the depeaking here in ATL, the flight none-the-less was pushed forward to leave one hour later...arriving MAD at 9.05am zulu.

My flight to Sevilla, IB 108 was initially shown to leave at 11.40am, however, that flight has been pushed back to depart at 10.40am...so:

I get to Madrid at 9.05am (flight from yesterday was late and arrived 9.28am) and then my flight to SVQ leaves at 10.40...do I have enough time to:
-picky bags
-go thru customs (not an European citizen, american)
-go to T2, check my bags
-get to my gate on time?

The reason why I like to pick my bags up in MAD and re-check them is because I don't trust the bagage handling from one to the other and would rather have the comfort of knowing that my bag at least arrived MAD and that if it was lost once i arrived Seville, I would know that it would be Iberia's fault.

Lemme guess, your departing out of ATL gate E27?
I do that flight every year,try to get out of the bus fast and get in the customs line fast so it wont take long. It acctually depends on how fast the bags come to you and how long the lines are. Have you ever come to MAD?

Yes, I fly to MAD about twice a year but am very acustomed to a 3 hr layover in MAD, so...im just curious as to whether im gonna be able to make it or should I just ship my bags all the way to my final destination and not have to pick them up in Madrid.

If you do not connect to your Sevilla flight, is the fast Ave train an option perhaps, or to wait for the next Sevilla flight?

If it's possible just wait until IB's 12:10 flight. Then there is no need to worry about bags or delays and you'll have time to do some spotting of all of the heavies headed to the US.

so concensus guys, do you recommend just shipping my bags all the way to sevilla and not worry about them in MAD?

I do not know how to change your ticket, but you should call IB and ask how much it would cost to change tickets. Then call your shipping company and ask how much it would cost to ship your bags. Then pick whichever one is better financially.

No way 1hr 40 min is enough if you have to pick up your bags and go with them to re-check them to T2, you will have to walk 15 min. Check your luggage all the way through, and you can get the boarding card with IB right after customs. Get into the customs line as soon as possible; IB flight from SDQ arrives daily at 0915, if these passengers get there before you, then forget it...

So then check bags all the way and then go to the transfer desk located inside the baggage area, right? If all the ppl from SDQ are there and to avoid the long wait if they are transferring as well, I could actually go to T2 and check-in for my IB flight correct?

Pax will be checked through to their final destination from SDQ so they don´t have to stop at the transfer desk. It is always better to get the boarding pass before going to T2, only in case of a long line in this counter you should go without it to T2 (be aware that this counter is also a lost luggage desk, ask if there is an specific position in the desk for pax who want to get boarding cards) , remember check-in will be closed at 1010.

Ok, Fermarta, say that I give you two hypothetical situations...

-first, I get on time (9:05am), will i be able to get to the check-in desk on time and which would you recommend "transfer desk" or T2 check-in.
-Second situation, I arrive at the normal time (9:30am)...which option would you think would be better?

My fiancee told me that the delays have been occurring due to the inclement weather in madrid for the last two days, but friday's forecast looks pretty nice, so what do you think?? I'm just panicking!!!

I would say no way is it enough time when you have customs & immigration to go through.

Well, why do you just not have your bags transfered? It works a lot easier.

I think that you should be able to make the conection time.

Good Luck! T2 and T2 are conected with a tunnel, but you can also take a conecting bus.

I have just seen that the Delta flight has been arriving about 30 mins late...so no way to make the connection...I have just called Iberia telling them about me not being able to make the connection, so that I have booked a one way thru Malaga on UX. Iberia told me if i fail to show up to the first leg (MAD-SVQ), they would automatically cancel my return trip...so anyways, I have been forced by these idiots to purchase a return on UX. Eventhough it was their mistake (due to their advancement of the flight time an hour) they have failed to show the customer service i would believe even an ant should receive, and after having flown with them for years, this has discusted me to all points. Sorry to say Iberia has lost my business and UX will be my preferred carrier of choice on my intra-Spain flights.

Did you buy two separate tickets for this flight?

As Richardw says, it is important to know if you have two separate tickets; if that is the case, you will not be able to check your luggage all the way through, so you will have to pick it up and go with it to T2 (you cannot take the transfer bus with bags). If DL flight arrives on time and the delivery of bags and customs is fast enough , that is, you have your bags before 0945, I think you can make it. IB has last minute counters (numbers 539 and 540) in T2, go straight to them if you arrive there after 1000.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with IB, anyway I have IB timetable
for this season (Oct. 31-Mar.26) and IB108 MAD-SVQ is scheduled to depart at 1040.
