I'm not sure I like it too much, as someone else already stated, it does take away from the sleekness of the 757, making it look more like a 738 in a way. I can live with it, but I do like it without the winglets better, oh well.

Which do you like better? Comparing them side by side.

While it is good with more range, less fuel etc... I still like that bird in the old-fashioned style  Smile Then again...I never really liked those kinds of winglets anyways.

I like the 757 winglets a lot but how about raked wingtips?

I thought they provided better fuel economy that's why the 767-400 and 777LR have em?

Maybe they are going to make them in the design of the 744 winglet. They would look much better on a 777 than those curved tips on the 737 and 757.

Amazing how much it resembles the TU-204! It'll probably take a while to get use to it, but it looks pretty cool on the 757. Wasn't a 747-200 tested out with these kind of winglets? I could of sworn that I read in a magazine a few years back that showed a picture of a 742F with 12 Ft blended winglets.

If I recall correctly,

It's because the 767-400, 777-200LR/-300ER have a very strong wing, so they can handle a higher wing loading. (Weight v.s. Lift). The Raked Wingtip helps cut induced drag but also provide extra lift. So less engine power is needed during climb or get to altitude quicker. With out them the 767-400 would climb like a loaded 340.

Blended Winglets help cut fuel use during cruise by cuting a major amount of
induced drag with out a large increse in wing loading.

Wing loading is why at one point Boeing was offering the 767-300 winglet as a swap kit. Winglets for short-medium routes, but removable for longer trans atlantic routes. Sadly the airlines balked at the idea and never ordered any. This was back in the days of the 747-500/600, and 767-400LR.


(Thats what I recall from AW&ST but I don't have the issue as I discarde my backlogs after 2 years)

I'm really surprised at how natural it looks on the 75'. I always thought it would look akward. Can't wait to see her in CLE!

Those winglets make the 757 look nice.  hearts  Lets see who is the next airline to place them. Are the 757-300s gettting them?

APB, a joint venture between API and Boeing is putting winglets on the 757, not Boeing. The design and certification work is done by APB - APB holds the STCs.

Airliners don't need "extra lift". They need effective span, which cuts induced drag. Raked tips and winglets do the same thing - they increase the effective span, which reduces the induced drag. Boeing claims that if you lay down a winglet (make it flat), a raked tip of the same span is just as effective. API claims that the winglet is more effective. From the evidence I've seen, I agree with API.
