It looks like this bird has been used for international flights to places like LIS and DUB. IT looks really nice, but I would have prefered wraked wing tips.

Hmmm...cant say Im a fan of how they look on the 757. I think the blended winglets look good on the 737...but on the 757? Looks kinds of akward to me.

I actually am not too fond of it. I think it takes away from the sleekness (word?) of the aircraft. I love them on the 737, but not on the 757. Perhaps it's CO's color scheme? I like it, but it looks cheap with the winglets.

What's going on at Boeing recently?

First, that 787 sharktail which looks like a copy of a 30 years old russian design for a TU and now this new 757 look, very similar indeed to the TU-204.

Has anybody at Boeing recently made a trip to Moscou? Silly

Some of you definitely need to be introduced to girls.

If the 757 had been fitted before the Tu-204, the Russians would have been accused of copying. But since the Tu-204 was first, this will be seen as a 'homage'. Big grin

(And whats up with that TU that looks exactly like the 757?....I highly doubt that Boeing is taking designs from Tuploev.... notice that the Tu has even the same forward hanging gear design....)....

Usually they don't notice too much, but they might notice a giant thing growing out of the wing which they hadn't seen before on the big jets, especially if they fly only CO.

I regards to the accusations of stealling designs. I would say, the most efficent design for this type, no matter if it is a 204 or a 757, they are designed for similair purpose and that is why they look alike.

That looks awesome! I didn't think you could make a 757 look any better, but good 'ol APB found a way! Who cares if it looks like a TU-204, it looks GOOD! And if it makes the 757 more efficient and flying longer, then I say bring 'em on!

Highly doubt it. I'd say at least 50% of your average travelers have no clue what type of aircraft they are flying nor do they care....as long as they get from point A to point B in once piece. I think the only thing they care about is getting on a jet and not a turboprop.

You know, I'm not sure I like it. When I saw the spy shots, I thought I would, but now that I see the whole plane, I'm not so sure.

I just spent the last few minutes looking at photos of 737's with winglets. I've always thought the 727 looked just smashing with winglets. So what's different about the 757? A couple things. First, the wings on the 757 seem to originate at a point higher on the fuselage than on the 737 or 727. Second, the 757's wing is very straight, without much sweep. It also appears to have less dihedryl. It might actually have as much, but it doesn't *look* like it.

For me, the attraction of winglets is that they make the wings look more muscular while looking more graceful. I dunno, for the 757. It's just not the same effect. I'll reserve total judgement until I see one in person.

OK, but here's the good question. How much do the winglets add to the wingspan? One of the reasons AA hasn't installed winglets in the the 737s is that it adds 5 feet to the wingspan, and at some airports, like ORD, it cuts down on the number of gates that can accept a 737.

777 winglets are under development at APB. See:

An interesting point to consider: the 757 winglets are actually 737NG winglets on adaptors. Thats why they look smaller than the winglets on the 737-300 or NG. This is a real clever way to save development costs.

I think this has been kicked around before, but are they the exact same winglets as are used on the 737NGs?

They obviously look the same, but I somehow don't think they are. Anyone get dimensions or comparisons to the other boeing winglets?

The only thing I don´t like about the 757 with winglets is, that it looks now like an Tu 204. I would love to see a 767-200 and -300 with winglets, though.

Regarding the above-mentioned article about winglets for the 777, the article states:

"Marino said the proposed Boeing 777 "wing extensions" may not resemble the curved winglets his company developed for 737s. "When we do our development, we try to find the optimum shape for each airplane," Marino said."

This sounds like they are proposing add-on raked wingtip extensions, not "winglets" like we all know them. Comments?
