Well, ET, like the other Times publications, have become little more than sensationalist rags. They don't even do their research properly: "Air France and Air-India already offer flights to the US through the French capital. " and forgot all about Delta.
Still, AI aren't about to get to 5 daily flights through Paris anytime soon, so it could work out for Jet.
Though Bombay-Brussels might have okay O&D with the diamond people, Paris is always a better bet, I think.

With all this expansion and activity coming from Indian carriers, what are the Middle Eastern carriers (EK, Etihad, Gulf Air, etc) up to? Or is the UK/US to India pie just getting larger so that everyone gets a slice?

I would love to see Jet join SkyTeam. They have a partnership with NW historically. With moving this operation to CDG, I wonder if membership is being considered?

Amazing--all of a sudden CDG seems to be emerging like the "new FRA hub" of flights to and from India.
DL--14 weekly when MAA starts
AF--21 weekly when BLR starts
AI--07 weekly soon to be.....
and now 9W joins the race

This makes USA- BRU- BOM seem even more logical for AA. There is nobody on that route, and they have a codeshare partner with good connections to Europe and Africa.

AA don't seem to be adventurous enough to move out of the Americas, western Europe and a bit of the Far East. If they do come out of their shell, and if they can manage it, USA-LHR-BOM would also make for a good routing.

After FRA & CDG, AMS should be the next to open up on the western side and HKG on east.
Of all american airlines, I'd say AA shall be the last to enter. UA at least makes noises, AA doesn't even do that.

Jet Airways plans to operate flights to Chicago and San Francisco via Paris even as it negotiates with Continental Airlines and United Airlines for a tie-up.
"We shall be starting flights from Mumbai to New York in two months time but on the long term are looking at operating flights to Chicago, San Fransisco and Houston or Dallas", Jet CEO Woolfgang Prock-Schauer said.
Jet has tied up with South African Airways for taking on lease three Airbus 340 for operating direct flights to London from next month, he said on sidelines of the listing at the National Stock Exchange.
"We are looking for more aircraft, either A340 or Boeing 777s for operations via Paris instead of Brussels" by winter, he said. "We are also talking to Continental and United for a tie-up in the US", said the CEO.
Jet Chairman Naresh Goyal said, "We are carrying out studies for long haul aircraft and come up with a firm plan shortly. Both Airbus (A340s) and Boeing (777s and 787s) are in the race for the fleet plan.

An A340E of SAA in 9W colours with SAAs new J and Y class products and IFE and with Jet Airways service standards--This route just got highly competitive.
BA, AI, and new entrants BMI and VS will have to pull up their socks.
I think VS should consider bringing their A346 which has a great product on all 3 services rather than just the inaugral flight.
Those are the same cities AI was looking to expand into.

what is surprising me is that 9W is creating buzz about SFO/ORD/IAD/IAH even before AI. We were made to believe that those routes are being opened up for AI. Is there any point in both AI and 9W going to these destination? Is there enough load factor to cater to two airlines?
One really wonders about PP's intentions.

No, AI has always being buzzing but unable to do, due to reasons we all know..
I agree with Karan that AMS would have been a better option.. why competing with AI's NYC in this question, when it could be much easier..? Then, FRA or even MUC would have been an option, too (Germany, having 80 Mio people has a great demand)

It would be, if they had any chance of tying up with LH for onward connections. But given the LH/AI tie up, that may be unlikely?
On another note, why did 9W select BRU in the first place when there were more "suitable" hubs like AMS/CDG (keeping in mind their tie ups with KLM/NW)? And what was the trigger for them to change to CDG at this stage?

revised bilateral between India and France allowing more slots and fifth freedom facility. Moreover France-US load factor should be higher than Belgium-US.
