GF To Dublin

Wed Mar 23, 2005 12:32 am

Just read on another aviation board that GF are planning to start services from Dublin. The idea is to fly Australia bound passengers from US/Dublin under an agreement with Aer Lingus.

Can anyone confirm this rumour or know anything else otherwise.

Hi GF-A330.
Interesting news. Where exactly did you read this?
Have not heard anything about this from this side!
Regards,
Mike

As per the GF website, they already codeshare with BMI on the LHR-DUB sector.

"With the addition of bmi marketing code on the Gulf Air operations and the recent addition of the three additional Gulf Air codeshare points to Dublin, Brussels and Aberdeen the relationship between bmi and Gulf Air is as strong as ever."

Doesn't BMI carry passengers, on GF's behalf, as a codeshare?

How long is it going to take airlines to wake-up and operate a direct Dublin-Sydney service? The direct charter flights to Cape Town have been a success and there is no reason to believe a direct service to Australia would be anything but.

Good move GF. I'm just surprised Emirates are not already there if it is so workable a route...

It's there for anyone who cares to take the risk; while I would prefer it to be EK, because they have a far wider network in Aus/NZ/Asia, I'd certainly welcome GF (or QR, which apparently also has an interest, but has a lack of aircraft.)

EK has messed about for far too long and if it doesn't act quickly, it's likely one of these two will steal in ahead of it.

The market is certainly there, not just for Oz, but for the rest of Asia as well. There are currently no direct services from DUB to anywhere east of the Baltic States (okay, apart from Cyprus - thanks, Helios!)
