A article on CNN has named Hong Kong (VHHH) as the worlds best airport, second favorite was Seoul's Incheon (RKSI) and Singapore's Changi (WSSS) airport was placed third. Kuala Lumpur's international (WMKK) airport came in fourth, while the Middle East hub of Dubai (OMDB) was ranked fifth.

here is the whole story http://www.cnn.com/2005/TRAVEL/03/24/bt.asirport.survey/index.html

I've been to Chek Lap Kok and would agree that it is very good. CPT is also good, although they seem to run out of gates at peak times of day.

Cainama in Venezuela. Where else can you wait outside, under a palm-covered bar, with free fruit (I'm serious), watching DC-3s come and go and only need five minutes to board your aircraft?

I would even recommend you to come once to ZRH. Since the new Dock E and the new Airsidecenter opened a few months ago, these facilities are really cool, functional and modern. Let´s hope it will do well in the next few years, after the LH/LX deal.

Mulu in Malaysian Borneo is my vote. After waiting on the open porch, being weighed on the same old-fashioned slide scales as our luggage, and checked in by pen and paper (Miles weren't recorded unfortunately...) We were invited to board our DHC-6 aircraft by stepping behind the check-in counter and walking out the back door on to the tarmac!!

I'm sorry guys, but this is just how it is: Americans can't build airports. Or at least not proper terminals. Having only spent a total of a couple of hours at both Chek Lap Kok and Changi I have'nt yet formed an opinion on these, but the best airport is definetley CPH. Go Scandinavia!

Criteria:
Immigration well, depends on the country. US airports are predestined to suck in this contest...
Security: well, FRA checks you 3 times, ORD just once on this round trip... go figure...
Facilities: how do we define that? I would say - how do I feel and react when entering the airport? Well, ARN and CPH (mostly CPH) kicked, but I have not been to Asia yet.
The survey sure is interesting, but the crteria is not well defined. We do not learn on what basis the airports are being praised or bashed...

It really isn't fair to compare immigrations. When I flew to Europe a couple of weeks ago the stiffest resistance I faced was having my passport checked. This seems to be the norm. The past 4 or 5 times I've been to Europe I have not had to deal with inspections. In fact a few times the inspection station at FRA was closed.

But here in the US I'd have to say that DTW is the best hub airport and MCO the best O/D airport.

The Asian airports dominate because they have a huge amount of money to spend and few passengers compared to the largest U.S. airports and they are newer, Hong Kong and Incheon having opened within the last 10 years. They are also able to snuff NIMBYs.

The survey results closely parallel the survey results for airports with the best shopping, an important consideration for airports that are mostly or exclusively international. The three biggest factors appear to be: Shopping; Facilities with ample capacity; and architecture. Of course, certain kinds of people have familiarity with airports around the world. They tend to be businessmen and wealthy people.

Continetals new additions at IAH and EWR are great terminals (coming from a UAL and LH fan who doesn't like COA much especially after taking Dr Pepper off of the drink list... thats a different story though lol)

Terminal E is great, just having to go through the parking garage in Houston during the summer can be a pain... and realllyyyyy hot and HUMID!

The latest addition at Newark... the newest wing at Terminal C is great too.

My favourite is Male' VRMM. I worked there for 4 months. I took a 20 minute dhoni ride (boat) to the terminal each day and watching dolphins ,stingrays ,manta rays and thousands of fish swim around you on a warm , sunny day was a great way to start the morning.
Briefing pilots under a palm tree was very different from Canada.
This is also the only airport where I delayed an A310 flight to LHR because 2 hours before departure the captain took a ski-doo ride , and it broke down on a neighboring island.Ops chartered a boat to tow him back,so the flight could depart.
And airbridges ?? We don't need no stinkin' airbridges.

I have been around many airports and I find them all very irritating and not one deserves to be #1. What is my average experience at any given airport;
Stressed staff, rude passengers (BOS #1), high prices for simple things such as mineral water, annoying rules about luggage / photography / smoking / alcohol / plane spotting / etc, long lines at customs, bad excuses for delays, waiting endless to get your bags, too many flights and passengers cramped in a too little time-frame, planes parking at gates far-far-away from everything, take-off holding lines that take for ever, flight announcers that you cannot understand (MEX is def. #1 in this one!), no available gates, taxiing to the polderbaan at AMS (20-30 minutes taxiing) only to find out that there are 5-6 planes ahead. If you fly from AMS to LHR, one of the world's most busy routes you are more on the ground taxiing to-and-from the gate than in the air flying!

Hey I resent that! How do you determine that the rudest passengers are from BOS? Sure, we have our share, but who doesn't? How many times have you been to BOS anyway? Was it one bad experience or something a little more consistent? I've dealt with my share of jerks, but I've seen a hell of a lot worse elsewhere.

Washington Dulles is one of the worst airports I have ever seen. I work there now and it is an embarrasment.

Incredibly long, inefficient, confusing security lines are a bad start. Then to add insult to injury the stupid people movers are still there. And how 'bout "Terminal" E? What a joke.

I agree about the high prices for everything and rules about photography. The rest is pretty much stuff that just takes patience. I can get by without the photography, too. The high prices, though, are a disgrace.

The security lines at Dulles do get to be a joke, sometimes, but that's no different than like MCO, SFO or some other airports at times.

I was impressed last time I went through EWR. I always had a picture of it being a bit dumpy and too congested, but it was better than I thought. SFO, on the UA side, is not bad. In fact, outside of DEN, SFO is UA's best airport as far as passenger comforts. ORD is sometimes too cramped (especially at either end of C Concourse), IAD can get way too cramped and LAX is kinda small in comparison with the other 4. Some smaller airports, like GSP, are well-built. DFW and DEN are very well built in my opinion, with room to expand and all, especially DEN. DFW feels a bit too enclosed compared to DEN.

I'm surprised no one in this discussion has mentioned YHZ, my hometown of Halifax as the best in North America.   Angry

I'm sure the US has many fantastic airports, but let's face it, most are just too overcrowded and uncomfortable to be considered for the top spot.

Personally I find Changi international the best airport on earth.
Extremely clean, lot's of places to sit, lot's of entertainment options, free internet. Add to that, is that SQ is one of the best airlines on earth.
So, a perfect mix.
KLIA, is also a good airport(Maybe that's because I live in Malaysia)beautiful architecture(from what I could see from the Sepang F1 circuit).
