Good news for Horizon today

Order 2005-3-35, the Department (1) selects Horizon Air Industries, Inc., d/b/a Horizon Air to provide subsidized essential air Service (EAS) at Pendleton, Oregon for a two-year period, and (2) establishes a subsidy rate of $649,974 per year for service consisting of three weekday and four weekend nonstop or one-stop round trips between Pendleton and Portland with 37-seat Bombardier Q200 aircraft.

Well, they got what they wanted, an increase in the $$ they get to go there. I guess if you start to complain and threaten to pull out, you can open up the bidding process and get the status quo for more money.
This is a disservice to the people in Pendleton and Eastern Oregon. You can bet that just before this two year period ends, Horizon will employ the same "we're pulling out in 30 days unless we get more $$" tactics. I say, pull out and deploy the plane where you can make $$ without our tax dollars paying for 10 people a day* to fly from PDT.

*- Not actual number, just a made up amount. But it ain't much!

For a city of less than 20,000, they should have 2 Metros or BE1900s to PDX and nothing more.

Seems to me they couldn't care less to serve the Eastern Oregon regional Airport.

Funny how the bids for 2 1900's a day was more then 3 dash-8's. Even if one of those is one stop service. Also giving notice of discontinuing service is a requirement of applying for EAS. Sure if Horizon was still flying Metro's this may not be required. But we aren't and the City of Pendleton is happy with our service. So seems like it works for everyone.
