First Serbian LCC Will Take-off Soon

Fri Apr 15, 2005 1:26 am

It is with great pleasure that Air Maxi, the first Serbian LCC, will take-off soon. According to press conference given by its general menager Mr. Vujovic, airline will begin its services in June and first destinations will be to Tivat, Turkey, Egypt, Greece, while services to Western Europe (Germany) will start later, probably in autumn.

Airline will lease to B-737-300s and they revealed it livery which looks very nice. Since I can't figure out how to post it, you can all see it at their website airmaxi.com.

I wish them all the success. Serbian passengers will finally have their LCC and more options to choose.

I've always thought of JAT as a LCC. There is nothing about JAT that says high cost....not their dirty, old planes, their indifferent service, their surly flight attendants, their irregular departures, their.... Sorry. It's too easy to pick on JAT.

I think everyone in the Balkans wishes Airmaxi success. We are the only ones in Europe denied cheap flights. Now it they would just serve SJJ.

I like it, I like it, I like it!  yes

Welcome AirMaxi!

I like the fact that the livery is very apolitical; it looks as though they are positioning themselves as simply an airline and not wanting to be associated with a particular state, smart move if you ask me!

I have no doubt they will do well, about time JAT gets a kick in the butt!

Sofia
Skopje
Dubrovnik  confused
Ljubljana

Later Scandinavia, Switzerland, Germany and France will be included.

Planes will be leased from United.

As soon as I can, I will go ahead and book. Great news. Although I doubt Air Maxi will be there for long.

Aleksandar, not sure if you got my email so here goes. Will the new Mediterranean destinations include Egypt and if so will they be served on a low cost scheduled or charter basis?

And it seems from your second post (reply 3) that the first destinations will in fact be in East Europe...

At first, they announced Mediterranean tourist destinations and if they stick to that plan, it will definitely by either SSH or HRG as well as points in Turkey but I'm not sure now until something official is released. These were news from Air Maxi's press conference as well as from RTS (national TV of Serbia)

Well, I hope you'll be proven wrong, but they will find great challenges.

Adorable livery!  cheerful

It's so hard to start up a small airline, and the region (I understand) is littered with what-iffers. Still, the market desperately needs them - I'd love to visit friends in Serbia and (if they ever fly there) Bosnia, but it's crazy expensive, and that's for someone who earns in sterling.

And, just for the design alone, I wish them the best of luck.

Sorry, I missed few important words in your post and thus answered only half a question.  silly

There a still very little information but, if they want to fly to Mediterranean, they won't be able to avoid Egypt because it's so popular. If they fly, they probably sell tickets as LCC because they can be purchased only online, so I guess that's the case.

Ambitious and diversified route list as well. Hope they meet with some long-lived success.

Service to Budapest is great, as people can board Airmaxi and then pick up cheap flights in Budapest. I mean Malev even has a CTO in Belgrade for the purpose, and there's a van that runs to Ferighy (excuse my spelling)
MrComet, I'd disagree, Their also getting 737-300s, as you know what Jat uses. Sure, Jat isn't very reliable, but that doesn't make them a terrible LCC like airline. I wish them success, but Russians and Ukrainians have also been deprived of the right ot cheap flights, other than some connections VKo-Europe

take Easy to LJU and train for rest of the way
it isn't so expansive
you don't have to fly all the way

I wish them luck and hope to see them in Croatia. It's time for the aviation of this region to move forward a bit...  bigthumbsup . We'll see what happens. But, as previous posters mentioned, any future links with LJU, BUD and ZAG would probably be successful - there is still quite a lot of movement between these destinations and BEG. Even JAT might get a passenger boost...

For some reason Vujovic always avoided Nis, and it would be surprising if Air Maxi adds them to its list of destinations. When Vujovic was general director of Jat Airways he considered Belgrade as the one-and-only commercial airport for Serbia. He was probably afraid that Belgrade would be losing some of the passengers originating from central and southern Serbia, as Nis is a convenient transit destination. Montenegro Airlines obviously benefited from no competition at INI.

I think Air Maxi will also operate charters to selected Italian cities. I really hope that this small airline grows to become multi-national, and has the opportunity to provide inexpensive service throughout Southeastern Europe. Furthermore, the introduction of an LCC operating out of Belgrade will encourage and should accelerate serious reforms in JAT.

PS: Does AIr Maxi have anything to do with the Maxi grocery chain or is it purely coincidental? NO reminiscence in the logos.
