Jat Has Discontinued Services To Banja Luka.

Thu Apr 21, 2005 11:44 pm

I assume this is due to weak load-factors, but I'm not sure. This means no more scheduled air service, other than a semi-charter run I saw advertised that flies BNX-FRA.
In case you don't know, Banja Luka is the capital of the Republika of Srpska, with a population of about 250,000, it's located in Northern Bosnia and Herzegovina and has immense links to Belgrade, with 10 buses a day, but only one train.
AMADEUS has no more flights, nor does Yahoo! Travel.

JAT's schedules were suspended from many websites because of the strikes at the airline and have not been reactivated as yet.

I would be very surprised if Banja Luka was dropped from JAT's network, even if unprofitable.

JoKeR,

Amadeus kicked off many other airlines, not only Jat Airways. Check

Yahoo! Travel also shows no availability for future flights, and Aerodrom Beograd doesn't show the flights at www.beg.aero anymore. At least on the actualy timetable, I think Joker is dead on. This time he's not Joking  Smile

I think that Jat Airways have dropped some routes, but I may be mistakened. In a recent article from Vecernje Novisti, the following schedule was presented:

Daily:
Tivat
Podgorica
Zurich
London
Paris
Frankfurt
Vienna

5-Weekly:
Amsterdam
Moscow
Sarajevo
Skopje

4-Weekly:
Istanbul
Kuwait
Dubai
Prague
Tirana

3-Weekly:
Dusseldorf
Stuttgart
Rome
Athens
Brussels
Stockholm
Copenhagen
Larnaca
Ljubljana

2-Weekly
Berlin
Tunis
Tel Aviv
Gothenburg
Cairo
Ohrid

1-Weekly
Malta
Tripoli
Hurgad
Nis

Among the traditional JAT destinations not published in this article included Banja Luka, Trieste, Milan, Thessalonika, Beirut and Damascus. With regards to Milan, Alitalia will be flying to Belgrade three times daily. With such an intense flight frequency, it is difficult for JAT to compete with a 5x weekly service. Should we consider these destinations dropped?

Furthermore, I noticed that some routes will be operating at a reduced frequency in comparison to last summer. Skopje and Sarajevo used to be daily, Amsterdam was 6x weekly, etc. Those blasted strikes have taken their toll on the airline. Nevertheless, from a positive point of view, there is an increased pressure for efficiency and profit rather than prestige.

By the way, I think Rome was upgraded to the Boeing 737-300s, which would fall in hand with the reduction of flight frequency from its daily ATR service.

I think that makes sense as a schedule. Will they have a fleet surplus now with the cuts? Perhaps they could lease out their 737s to Aviogenex. I guess Banja Luka just wasn't lucrative. Maybe Air Bosna III will come to be.. Who knows. I'd like to have to have a new RS Airline. Banja Luka ,sadly, was more of a novelty than anything else. The aerodrom of the Republika of Srpska is hilarious. Their an airport, but they have one of everything. One small cafe, one small Jat desk, one security guard, one small newsstand.
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know who runs Banja Luka to Frankfurt? I saw a schedule at an agent in Banja Luka, and it had a pictur eof a generic A320, but I don't think BNX has an A320 to FRA.

The Banja Luka airport for some reason stuck an 8 before the Jat flight number, and it seems to be updated, as it shows no more FRA-BNX service (must have ended, haven't been in Banja Luka for over a month)
It did show that it was operaated by GV, Air Riga, never heard of the entity.Anyway, I'll make a run to the ticket office later and let you all know.

The airlines were not 'kicked off' Amadeus. SOME airlines timetables, for commercial reasons, are no longer displayed on amadeus.net (which is just a website, and is NOT the main Amadeus system)

On Banja Luka's official website it says that there are two destinations BEG and FRA. As we know BEG is currently not running and for FRA there is no schedule although there is a flight number GV1(5)743. It's kind of strange... I don't have a clue if this is IATA or ICAO number... ICAO GV1 I can't find anything, IATA GV is Aero Flight, Germany... No information on aircraft though. Aero Flight doesn't have any info about flying to BNX... they are currently flying to SJJ.

According to JAT's published schedules, nothing till June I'm afraid. The old flights BEG-BNX used to be operated by Air Srpska (R6), nothing in the new schedules indicates they are operated by R6 any more.

I know that Jat Airways is in the Amadeus system. What I meant was their timetable shown on the website, nothing else. Thanks for clarification.

BEG-BNX-BEG is operated by Jat Airways after Air Srpska was terminated, serving Banja Luka 4 to 5 times weekly, unless things have changed since. In any event, I would be very surprised if BNX is dropped from the JAT timetable. My earlier posting of the schedule from Vecernje Novosti does not appear to be completely accurate. They did not mention BSL either. This route is being operated with 737s twice weekly. I would still like a confirmation of JAT flights to TRS, SKG, MXP, DAM and BEY.

Any (possible) surplus aircraft should not be expected to go to Aviogenex, as that company is one of the founders of Air Maxi. Speaking of which, Air Maxi will be getting two Boeing 737-300s from United Airlines. I think that this new actor in Serbia will lead to significant developments within the next few years.

Btw, any news regarding the Airbus delivery?

It seems that BNX, MXP and some other cities are dropped from schedule. Maybe somebody in Jat Airways really started thinking about efficiency and costs.

From the website we can conclude that regular service to BNX, TRS, SKG, MXP, DAM, BEY and BSL have all been dropped. Flights to OSL have also not been realised. I am still surprised about the news regarding Banja Luka, and the apparent suspension of flights to Basel too! Nonetheless, its about time they start thinking of efficiency. Next step: layoffs, website, and fleet renewal?

Here we go! JAT at its's best.

I can understand that they dropped TRS for various reasons, because airline's main target were passengers from Slovenia, before they started flying to Ljubljana.

BSL?? I thought load factors were good there? At least, there were such roumors.

MXP? Do they show some fear of competition? OK, Alitalia flies three daily flights, but they are all operated with ERJ-145. A total daily capacity is no bigger than one A320 flight, for example. If the winter season just started, I might have even understood such decision, but this. In a month or two, passenger numbers will increase and this way, all the money goes to Alitalia. Is it a good move for struggling airline such as JAT?

SKG, DAM, BEY are definitely not JAT's most profitable routes, but neither is TIA and JAT still flies there.

In the end, well, that's JAT. Many moves they made were not always understandable nor profit driven so I'm not so surprised now too.

Hi

I could swear that JAT was here in BSL last Sunday. They started the route last winter and loads were very good, therefore they decided to add a third weekly flight.

Not sure what happened now but I think the flights go via ZRH at the moment.

Any update on what happens with that route is appreciated.

The schedule posted on the website looks quite feasible. Nonetheless, just imagine if Jat Airways added the Embraer 170 to its fleet. In my opinion it would be more friendly for business. Some traditional Boeing 737 routes could switch to the Embraer 170, where flights could be increased to a daily service. Such destinations would likely include Prague, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Rome, Athens, Brussels, and Skopje. If only I were the one who calls the shots...
