United In Hong Kong

Tue Apr 11, 2000 12:59 pm

I have seen several pictures of a United 767 at Kai Tak. Does anyone know what route this plane flew? Obviously it couldn't be a direct flight from the west cost of the U.S. I wouldn't imagine a 767 could make that trip.

Service has now stopped.

I thought a 767-200ER version could fly 12,300km(Source: Boeing Homepage) so it is capable of flying from, let's say LAX.

A 767-200ER doing LAX-HKG?? Even if it is theoretically possible, what payload penalty will that incur?

Anyway, that 767-300 flew UA's round-the-world segments except for the trans-Pacific segment between LAX-HKG. I believed every one of UA's 767-300ERs passed by HKG at least once, including the Star Alliance plane N653UA (just once!).

The 767 was replaced by 744 when UA extended their LAX-HKG segment onward to Delhi. This last several months until UA dropped Delhi from their schedule altogether, thus ending the round-the-world route.
