Yes, true, it looks much more traditional.
I must say that I fell in love with the one before, so now that one seems a bit "ugly" to me.... however it is just a matter of time and I will like it I suppose...

Is this really it? YIKES! BARF!

I have just lost all enthusiasm I've had for the B787.

The nose reminds me of the ATP, gone are the huge cockpit windows and, in the third picture, the fuselage looks like a sausage with wings and tail stuck on it.

And, haaaaang on, its shape looks round from the front. I thought it was supposed to be ovoid?

I'm personally devastated...

I'm gonna have to agree with Mauriceb. I was really looking forward to the 787 from the initial design pictures. Now the shark tail has gone and the nose seems to have been scaled down...it doesn't seem as 'special' or unique.

The plane looks all wrong here..

Having said that I am sure its more aerodynamically efficient this way. Good luck to Boeing, they have a real money maker there.

LOL. Its a 767 with a big new wing and different engines.

Where did you pull that from? Boeing? Any mention of whether that is the final design?

I was pretty sure that it had been frozen with the shark tail and the new nose.... (suspecting photoshop here!) duck

So what was the point of basically misleading folk as to what the plane was going to look like?

Until just yesterday with the AC release they were showing the sharkfin etc.

Didn't you note that the plane has on the first picture winglets - but I don't see winglets on the other pictures.

But I guess these are just design dreams of Boeing and the engineers will shape the plane as they want.

After seeing these pics, I'm glad they didn't name it the 808. In all honesty, it oughta be the 767NG. Using 787 is a waste of the name.

That's pretty well the same squared-off tailfin Boeing airliners have had since the 707. Maybe the B17 Flying Fortress will remain just about the only Boeing product that ever had a curved one!

The thing that is STILL there - and will, I think, make the 787 look very different - is the thin, high-aspect-ratio wing shape - which is probably the key to the aeroplane's performance. The different shape/proportions don't show much in those side-on shots.

Perhaps it's just me, but nose-line seems reminiscent of the SAAB 340/2000 series.

It still looks good to me, yeah I'll miss the shark tail and nose, but the shape is STILL more non-traditional than a/c that are flying right now. The tail STILL is much more curvaceous than any tail of any plane flying now... the nose also keeps the same basic shape, but is scaled down quite a bit, rather, it was de-lengthened....

Think of it this way, at least it doesnt look like the super-jumbo, the stump-master (IMHO.....we'll have to see it flying to decide how it looks all around)

I'm disappointed. I really liked the look of the original 787, now it looks like a 767... well, not exactly, but much more conventional

The first picture is of the 787-300, and has large winglets, optimized for mid-range, I think. The 787-800 and -900 have sort of raked wingtips, like the 772LR. You can clearly see them.

I can't say the new version looks "ugly", but I'm somewhat disappointed she looks so traditional now. And on pic #3 the tail cone looks funny IMO.
At least the bigger windows will stay (I hope).

I agree. I wonder if Boeing knew this all along, and came up with the exaggeratedly sleek initial design to just turn heads and get attention. Going to be a pretty boring plane once the initial excitement fades. It looks like a Giant Embraer Jet...

Well, from the point of view of an airline, yes, that's true, but my comments were from the point of view of an aircraft enthusiast. I was simply looking forward to something different - apparently from the replies most people tend to agree so far.

I wish they would get rid of that nasty area around the cockpit windows. It needs more curve, look at a 767 and you will know what i mean. The nose is fine. Overall the plane looks much better than it had before.

Its interesting how everybody wanted something different...even I was expecting something significantly different from all what they said.

It seems like Boeing did a good job marketing something they didnt even have a design freeze on yet....then after all the orders poured in they changed the design.

Every few months the updates from Boeing seems to only tell one thing...its going to look more and more like a mix between a 767 and a 777 from the outside.

It might be much more different on the inside but from the outside its a different story.

Loss of the shark-fin shouldn't come as a surprise - it's been known for months that the fin was proving very difficult aerodynamically and Boeing had already said that it would have to redesign it.

Things can still change, but, from things I have read, by removing the "shark fin tail", Boeing was able to increase to efficiency of the 787 even more.

Gosh, what happened? It's now fat....the tail's too small....the nose is too blunt....the back of the plane curves down too much.....yuck..

Fortunately, planes aren't sold on looks but economics, otherwise Boeing wouldn't be selling many of these things!

I think it looks a lot better now than it did with the pointy nose and shark-fin tail. I thought the previous design looked redilculous, especially since Boeing made it look that way only to give it a 'distinctive' appearance like the 747 has with its hump.

The latest design probably reflects how the plane needs to be built in order to achieve the aerodynamic efficiencies that Boeing is promising with this aircraft.

These are all still "artistic renditions" and we've not seen the final aircraft in production form. I've the feeling it's going to be somewhat unique looking in the end, and actually like the design and disagree with the "looks like another 767 or Embraer" line of thinking.

The first thing that came to my mind was a Caravelle! Now wouldn't that be something. A Caravelle with two wing-mounted engines flying the skies to an airport near you.

I quite like that thought, myself.
