To Manila By Air France

Wed May 18, 2005 1:32 am

Hello all,
I am strugling to find some flight from PRG to MNL by AF, do they even fly there? I know, a lot of KL flights, but I am not interested in KL  Smile

Unfortunately AF has discontinued all flights to MNL.

Instead they code share now with KL on the direct B777 service AMS-MNL route.

Your best bet would probably be TG, SQ, LH from FRA. If your looking for a sky member then look into KE they fly to PRG.

I see, many thanks for info. Yes, I am sky team member, which I sometimes feel sorry for because LH is good option. I flew with them to/from Beijing last year.

KE proposal is very interesting though, I will indeed have a look!

I think the merge of AF and KL is not good IMO, it decreases competition level...

KLM to MNL would be a great option. They fly their new B777s there and neither LH nor KE can match their service and cabin equipment (IFE). LH's economy product is just crappy compared to KL.

Correct. AF does not serve MNL any longer. They used to come here to BKK and then on to MNL. Now they still come but continue in to Hanoi. We had great AF Flights here. Some of the even continued to Papette, but this is a long time ago.
The quickest way from PRG tp MNL is probably LH, which also goes via BKK. LH used to have a nonstop flight FRA to MNL with a 340 a couple of years ago, but they probably lost some money and switched back to the stop here in BKK.
Hope this will help.

Really?  Smile Yes, last year I flew with KL to MNL yet with B747, they could not make it directly to MLN, so we made one stop on Kuala Lumpur. It was looooong flight and aircraft was not much nice.

But B777 is pretty nice though so I will probably finish with KL. Korean Air doesn't even offer PRG on their european destination list :p

And I flew by Bussines class yesterday since I was promoted to OK's silver card  bouncy  . But... it is not worth so much money  brokenheart

Tomys,

As a Skyteam memeber, why don't you just fly PRG-AMS (KL or OK) and AMS-MNL / KL.

AF dropping MNL was the first part of the reorganization of AFKL's network.
AF dropped MNL and CGK in favor of KL, two markets were KLM was holding a better position than AF.
KL dropped CCS, DLA, ABJ in favor of AF, as AF was holding a stronger position on theses routes.

LH's daily flight to Manila now stops in Guangzhou utilizing the A346.

Do you have any info on schedules and types of aircraft they flew that route. Seems like a strange one since going west to PPT from France is much shorter.

BA used to serve MNL (Direct I think), but it was discontinued long ago, 2001 I think.
But apparently, BA used to do very well on that route.(Not that well though it seems, perhaps more likely they needed slots at LHR).

You could always catch a few more airports and fly OK PRG-SIN, then KE SIN-ICN-MNL  Smile

BA, did not serve MNL direct ever.
Routing's that were utilized:
LHR-DXB-BKK-MNL
LHR-HKG-MNL

the MNL route was axed in favor of a codeshare with CX on the route.

The KE leg from SIN-INC-MNL would be very expensive and a LONG flight.
From SIN you can fly to MNL with SQ, PR, QR(to CEB only), Silk Air(to CEB and DVO only) and low cost carrier Tiger to Clark

Current carriers serving MNL:

Europe: LH and KL only =(
MidEast: Emirates, Qatar, Saudia, GulfAir, Kuwait Airways
Asia (relevant Airlines with European Destinations) TG, SQ, BR, CI, MH, KE, OZ, JL, CS

BR flies to Viena by the way would that not be a good option?

According to OAG, KE does offer PCG-ICN

M**T*S* 7:20p PRG 12:20p+1 ICN KE 936 Non-stop 333 10:00 Effective May 16

with the above flight, you could connect to MNL on:
****F** 7:25p ICN 10:05p MNL I1 KE 8623 Non-stop 744 3:40
******S 7:25p ICN 10:05p MNL I1 KE 623 Non-stop 773 3:40

However, despite being the most direct routing, it is longer than taking KL over AMS...

7:20p PRG 10:05p+1 MNL I1 KE 936/KE 623 Via ICN 333/773 20:45
5:05p PRG 3:20p+1 MNL I1 *KL 3122/KL 0803 Via AMS 737/777 16:15

Definitely take KLM. They are among the best European airlines. AMS is a joy to connect, the new T7 are great (great IFE- AVOD, confortable seats, nice and fresh looking interior, etc). The crew is nice and food good. And KLM is a SkyTeam member so you can easily earn miles on this long flight.
Or you have the option of flying KE to ICN connecting to Manila. KLM, in my opinion, is better than KE in almost every aspect, so if I was you, I would take KLM.

Just a suggestion... if you really want to fly AF why don't you take AF to HKG and then hop on a CX or PR flight for the short 2 hour ride to MNL?

If you're getting a through-fare (a fare built-in to the AF price where AF handles ticketing for your entire route) then you can opt for CX. If you plan on purchasing the HKG-MNL flight seperately then go for PR as they are usually cheaper than CX or any other airline anyway.
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

Whoa Tricki....you're alive!?!  eek

Anyhow it's been sad with European carriers such as AF leaving MNL...less diversity each time I go through NAIA... Sad

For me "direct" is with the same plane, but you can have en route stops. Don't you mean "BA did not serve MNL non-stop, ever" ?

I remember having taken a BA flight London-Manila in the nineties, with a stop in the Gulf (not in DXB, was it Bahrein ?). I don't remember of another stop, in BKK or elsewhere. But I can be wrong on this point.

It was a Tristar, what a comfortable plane !
I will never fly again 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y

BA used to fly to MNL. They started with the TriStar 500 in the 80's. I flew them several times in the late 90's using 744's...even flew with the then newly-introduced beds in first class.

I will tell you, because I don't like KL's B747 but I realized KL fly with B777 with in-seat video so should be fine?

Don't forget, SkyTeam member  Smile But I gave up, I understand no AF flights to MNL.

After all it seems they will send me to PEK instead. What about AF flights there? On the other hand, AMS and CDG are incomparable.  no
