KLM will be upgrading its business class seats as well as install PTVs in their B 747-400s. What about TG, LH/AF etc? Do they have plans to install PTVs in their B 747-400 economy class?
I know TG/LH/AF are upgrading their first and business class products (AF has removed first on the B 747-400)

KLM will only install B777 style WBC seats in the B747-400 (unfortunately, I like the current seats

I thought KL would be installing new cabins with PTV's in every class?
TG is current only upgrading F and J on the 744's the Y class has only just received new seat covers, seems pretty stupid, may as well upgrade the whole aircraft!

i don't know if that includes PTVs in Eco, but with the introduction of the A380, LH is supposed to roll out a new First Class and Economcy Class product. won't happen until late 2007, though.

The newest AF 744 have PTV in Eco (3 I think).
The other 744, when refurbished, have PTV installed only in the Upper-Deck Eco cabin.

TG doesn't need PTVs in Y. Y to BKK will generally be full whether it has wooden benches or state of the art entertainment system.
LH Y is always full as well, no need for PTVs from economical point of view. LH doesn't give a s*it about Y folks anyway.

Yeah as a man of 6'4" i can second that. Seat pitch is horrible and 17 hours with this bitchy bad Screens every x rows is bloody boring.

The last 3 AF's B744 have PTVs in Y : F-GITH/I/J.
The B744 reconfigured in the Y/J version have PTVs (VOD) at the upper deck, as this cabin is a "Premium Economy" (Alizée Class) on the flights to Carribean/Indian Ocean.
AF operates "only" 15 B744 PAX. 3 are going to be reconfigured in all Freighters, and some more could follow. 3 already have PTVs in Y.
AF will not add PTVs in Y class in the few remaining a/c. Morover, the B744 (PAX) could leave the AF fleet sooner than expected, replaced by additionnal B773ER, even on the "leisure" destinations. More B773ER were ordered recently (to be based at ORY to replace the last 4 B743). All those B773ER will be fitted with PTVs, even in "M" class.

From what I heard the 400s will stay for a quite a while. The 200s and 300s will be gone soon (Or have they retired them 100%?)

The last -200 will be retired by the end of this month (F-GCBJ). This a/c is based at ORY and provide only additionnal flights to RUN and AJA.
The retirement of the -300 is scheduled for end 2006.

I second Lufthansa747, LH doesn't care about Y pax anyway and catering..well I don't think they know the meaning of the word catering

Do they have PTVs in Y class on other aircraft? If yes, there should be no reason why they do not put PTVs in their B 747-400 Y class. The B 747-400 is an important long haul aircraft

If you mean AF, well, apparently it isn't that important to them, with the 777 (and soon the A380) becoming their prime longhaul aircraft. The 777 and A380 will be the only types in the fleet to retain F class, with the rest going J/Y only.

Heard that they are interested in the B 747A. That was back in 2002 when it was still called B 747-400XQLR

Other routes for the A380 with AF, after JFK & YUL, are CDG-NRT and CDG-PEK, then probably LAX, MIA ...
10 A380 are on order + 4 Options. That's enough for AF for the moment and no B747 of any kind will be added. AF will not buy the 747-Adv if ever it is launched, but more B772ER/B773ER & A332 will certainly be ordered, and probably the B787 or A350.

Where did you get that info from?
KLM will indeed install LCD overhead screens on the 747-400's and MD-11 to replace the current monitors.
However on the 744's it's a temporary measure. because between 2006 and 2008 KLM will retrofit the 747-400 fleet with the MAS-3000 system like the ones on the 777's and also install the 777 WBC seats on its 747-400 fleet as you said.
Furthermore there will be a new design for carpets, seatcovering, curtains and wallpaper on the 744 fleet.

I remember they once said that they would consider the B 747 Advanced if they are satisfied with the improvements. If not then no.
Good to see that KLM will be upgrading its IFEs and will install PTVs on every single B 747-400 seat. Hope AF, LH and TG will do the same thing.
