Well I was one A.netter at the carpark to see it land. Got one of employees to drive me there  Silly who happens to hold a cpl himself. Just about missed it as I got held up at McD's but parked on the road cos' you guys had scored all the parks  Sad but a couple of minutes after I arrived, it appeared on approach.
Went over to Int to look at it from the viewing deck but it was hidden away on the remote stand by then.  Sad

Unless I am going blind or senile (either is actually entirely on the cards) there was NOTHING in this morning's Herald about the 777-LR visit, apart from the fullpage ad. by Boeing buried deep in the business section.

What's going on?? Is my interest in commercial aviation that much out in left field?? Doesn't anyone apart from us care that the prototype longest range airliner is in town??? I would've expected at least a badly written 3 inch column (of course referring to the jet as a "jumbo") and a photo or two.

I checked the TVNZ News website this morning (as I don't get to see the 6pm news) to see if they had an item on there, but nothing there either.

Yeah, and it wasn't much of one.. And then told us that it wouldn't make it to New York from here.

It was great, watched 3 touch and go's from the bottom carpark before my uncle got bored. Now I wish that I had got my restricted licence earlier.. But don't regret going to HKG on CX J class  Wink

I had a look onboard this morning, and I have to say how impressed I was. The interior is just awesome. This aircraft (002) is destined for PIA and was fully decked out inside, even with stars that twinkle on the cabin ceiling. The Boeing reps were great, giving away free stickers, photo albums etc. I was standing about 30 feet from the engines when she started up before the demo flight, and boy what a sound. Nothing can beat that sound. I feel sorry that it wasn't able to be shared by more enthusiasts/members of the public.

Arrrghhh....you're so lucky NZ1! And those in Auckland able to see it. Lucky bastards!  Silly

I saw the news segment on it, looked beautiful. On the Xtra website, it says:
For passenger comfort, its advantages include wider seats and aisles. Wiring and ventilation has been reduced in the ceiling to provide more headroom and cabin space has been increased through changes to the overhead storage bins.

http://xtramsn.co.nz/news/0,,11964-4584575,00.html

How do they manage wider seats and aisles and the other things above? How different in the interior is it to the 772ER?

Cheers

Now I'd wish that they would do some go-arounds as well.. give the crowd some excitement and experience that same feeling as NZ1 did..

Not too sure as I haven't seen the inside of our 772ER yet.

Quoting NZ1 (Thread starter):
Boeing says that the aircraft has the range to fly Auckland - New York direct. It has an all-up range of 17,454km. Later this year, the Worldliner will attempt to set a new world record for distance traveled nonstop by a commercial aircraft. The current record -- 10,823 nautical miles (20,044 kilometers) -- was set in 1997 by the 777-200ER (Extended Range).

Also in One News at 6PM:

Quote:
However Boeing says flying non-stop from Auckland to New York or London is beyond the plane's reach.

Quite amazing that they said that it couldn't reach New York.. But in the Herald, the ad says that it can reach NY non-stop so I don't see anything right with the media post.

I had about 30minutes onboard at the jetbase this afternoon, and got all the promotional stuff too. I was working by the time it started circuits & bumps. However I was out on the ramp watching it come and go for about a half hour while we waited for the NLK flight to arrive, and the noise is rather good. I have a few photos also, but the weather was packing in. Oh well..

Hi to all from MEX.

Would somebody be able to confirm the departure of this plane to MEX and an expected arrival time?

This will be very much appreciated as there won't be public access to the plane so every hope to snap it is set on the arrival.

Thanks in advance

Well, ETD is 1400 NZST, which is in half an hour. By my predictions, this will get there at like 6AM your time as it is around 1/2 an hour longer to get to (Great Circle Mapper). Unless they will fly this leg on one engine, be prepared to get up early!

They had a full 6 or 7 minute article on Holmes. There were a few gaffes, like they implied that 777 is a new plane (rather than just the 777-200 LR) but they didn't make the mistake that I saw on TVNZ when Judy said that it couldn't make it to New York from Auckland.

They showed the crew rest area and they showed the new light system that I thought was in development for the 787 (the cabin gradually dimmed with blue colored light with LED stars as the sun set). The presenter also stood in front of one of the massive GE90-110B1s.

The funniest part was when the article finished and Holmes said that he would love to get behind the controls and make a landing,  Smile I'm not so sure Boeing would  Smile!

It wa ssupposed to leave AKL at 3pm this afternoon, though I can't confirm because I was tied up in SUI's paperwork nightmare.

I was very disappointed that I was going to be flying & unable to see this beauty during her stop in AKL... until what did I spy out my little circlular viewing window as we taxiied across SYD airport on Monday morning?

She sure is stunning, can't wait until NZ's ERs arrive!

It was rescheduled to 1700 from 1500. Didn't see that takeoff but it certainly appeared gone from the remote gate when I finished boarding QF25 at 1800 this evening.

Did this thread die or was it continued under a different heading? I want to know
if the aircraft managed to fit into one of NZ's hangers?
