777LR In AKL Tomorrow (19th)

Mon Jul 18, 2005 6:32 pm

This extract is from the Airport company's website.

The Boeing 777-200LR Worldliner - the world's longest-range commercial aircraft will visit Auckland Airport this week as part of its "Going the Distance" tour. The 777-200LR will be the longest-range commercial aircraft when it enters service early next year, and will visit more than 20 cities around the world on the current tour.

The aircraft will arrive at Auckland Airport from Sydney at around 3pm Tuesday 19 July and will depart for a non-stop flight to Mexico City at around 2pm on Thursday 21 July.

At around 1.30pm on Wednesday, the aircraft is scheduled to perform a series of 'touch-and-go' maneuvers. Members of the public who are interested in seeing the aircraft take off and land will be able to do so from:

> the public observation deck in the main international terminal;

> the public observation deck at the Air New Zealand domestic terminal; or,

> the public viewing points on Puhinui Road.

Please note that all times are approximate, and may be subject to change due to operational requirements.

Boeing says that the aircraft has the range to fly Auckland - New York direct. It has an all-up range of 17,454km. Later this year, the Worldliner will attempt to set a new world record for distance traveled nonstop by a commercial aircraft. The current record -- 10,823 nautical miles (20,044 kilometers) -- was set in 1997 by the 777-200ER (Extended Range).

Get your camera's ready. Can't wait to look through it on Thursday morning.

Yes I am at work that day. Best public viewing would be from the lookouts on the eastern approach to the airport.

Hopefully I'll be there on Wednesday to watch the touch and goes. Anyone have any idea on how long this will continue on for and if it will pass over the city at any time?

Thanks

I saw it arrive today from SYD, beautiful approach, just had a ray of sunlight on it as it crossed the fence.
I hope to have a look onboard also while it's here, I managed to get to see on the 773ER when it was here and I was impressed with the cabin space.
Would be great to see NZ order some !!.. heres hoping, but you never know.
I will be at work also and will try and get some touch and go shoots also.
Saw a guy also with a camera with a huge, huge zoom lens, taking photos of the arrival lets hope he was a a.net photographer and we see his shot posted.

Well.. That approach was quieter than the 773ER. It shocked me that there was such a difference in noise between it and a 737. Well first thing is to sort out that flight attendant problem of theirs.. There were so many Air NZ aircraft just hanging around the tarmac.

They may well do. Remember, a large part of NZ's order are still options so these can be converted to firm orders for what ever version suits their needs at the time.  Smile

Intl Terminal. Saw it arrive from gate 4 today, but was immediately parked on the remote gate behind 7. I was aiming to be taken out on ramp by av sec today while it is still there cos that's gonna be the only chance, but I'm going out to work early tomorrow to see if I can manage something, although I have a remote gate departure tomorrow, so maybe a chance then.

This is for the arrival yes, as there are people on board who need to clear customs. It was supposed to be towed to the hangar tonight, early tomorrow.

In that carpark, do you prefer the top or bottom of the road? I guess that the bottom is good as it doesn't have the lamp posts in the way.. but the platform thing on the middle one is a good place.

The angle of the photo is affected but is there more of an acceptance rate if it's taken from below the aircraft?

Don't get your knickers in a twist. I have good reason for staying anonymous. There are too many people who may not like the fact that I like to give information to my fellow a.netters. Even if you send me an email, you will only get a reply with 'NZ1' and not my real name. Nothing personal, just how I operate.

And no, I wasn't in the carpark. I was airside in the best spot on the airport for taking photo's. Don't ask where, because you wouldn't know it even if I told you.

Cheers

each have their own perks. I find it is easier to see what is coming at the top. But better for photos at the bottom.

For me, the bottom. I often park up top though.

NZ1, I dont think NZAA was asking what the a.netters looked like or were wearing, as to point out identities in the carpark today, just wondering who was where and if they saw it, from what I can see.
You have asked me before what department and where I work.

Thats right. The flyers on the notice-boards were aimed at me and 2 others who 'helped'. However, they didnt know the identity of those involved so put out a blanket flyer.

Quoting NZAA (Reply 48):
How much of the cabin will be Premium and how fast are the seats selling long haul.

They are selling very well overseas - especially the UK/Europe, but the US too. I understand there will 2 rows totalling 18 or so on the 772 but I think from memory it's about 4 rows of 5 on the 744. I was too busy testing the new seats out to really notice the exact number though.
