April, I need a room. If you don't get enough people for a group rate then I'll just stay at the Ramada, cool? Thanks.  Smile

Tony, that makes me want to yell at you:

GET A ROOM!

Better?  Smile

Sure, the Ramada works fine - it is probably where I would try to get a group rate first anyway.

Hello all,

Here from SFO. I'm only 15 but would have no issues catching a flight up there for a day or two. If i do make it up could I piggy back with a few members to get around and if I stay overnight have someone book a room for me under their name? I have done it before and hotels don't care who pays as long as someone is over 18 on the name therefor at checkout I'd pay. If not I'll just make it up there for a day probably the 20th.

Take care all,

Matt

UA777222, that's a bit of an odd request...let's see what we can do. Can anyone help Matt out?

Only Tony posted about the hotel so I won't be trying to get a group rate.

Latest schedule:

Thursday:
Dinner (and drinks  Smile )

Friday:
Me-262 production facility tour (CONFIRMED for 10 am)
Museum of Flight restoration facility tour at Everett
Lunch
Boeing 747 plant tour at Everett (we will have to shoot for the 1 pm tour)
*Possible* sightseeing flights from PAE or BFI (I will work on this)
Dinner

Saturday:
Museum of Flight at BFI (morning)
Picnic at watertower at SEA (afternoon)

Sunday:
Whale watching? (Mike and Amie are doing this)
More spotting at SEA? (HAL will wave at us around 2 pm  Smile )

Okay....once more...does anybody have any contacts at PAE for sightseeing flights? Looks like we have some ideas for flights out of BFI, but we'd probably be better off staying up at PAE, with road traffic on a Friday afternoon.

Next we've gotta get cars lined up. Who will have a car and is willing to drive people around? I can drive any time except Friday morning...I live quite close to Everett and I don't really fancy an extra 1.5h drive down to SEA to pick people up.  Smile

Man, I'd like to be there, but I have to work.

Make sure you guys have fun and take plenty of photos. Don't forget to stop in at the Everett tour office first thing to make sure you get tickets. They sell out early sometimes and you need a ticket.

My vote is moderate and interesting and local. I could suggest some such restaurants in Kirkland / Redmond / Bellevue, but I don't know anything down south.

You might actually be better off getting something more central. If you found a wild deal downtown, I'd go for it. Otherwise, either the airport or Renton will do.

Just came across this. It's a little late, but there's a slight chance I might be able to swing it. The last time I was in SEA was when I was just a little kid and I've always wanted to visit again. Are most out-of-towners staying at the Ramada Inn Suites on International Blvd?

I live in Seattle, so I may be able to attend some of the activities, especially those involving the Museum of Flight and Boeing (I am a Member of the Museum) Everett (I live near the Everett facility).

I will look at my calendar for that weekend and see what is up. I should have an answer within tomorrow (Aug 10).

I live in Renton, and the Holiday Inn Express here gives airline employee discounts if you work for one.
April, I'm available for taxi duty for 2 or three people Thurs/Fri, and will probably try to join in the fun Sat/Sun nights after the photog lecture is over.
I think my e-mail address in my profile is correct, but I will check.

Good to know, Highguy, thanks! Also, the Boeing tour is (or at least was) cheaper or free for those of you who are airline employees. Bring your company ID along on Friday.

Tony - I'm going to go back on my previous advice and suggest that you do stay down by the airport or Renton way. I think it will work out better if the out-of-towners stay relatively near each other.

One thing I would like is a count of everyone who wants to go on a sightseeing flight. If I can call and say we have X people who want a flight, maybe I can get us a discount. Please post by Monday if you want to do a sightseeing flight.

1. I can't make it... Let's go with 'because of my job'.
2. I am not a perv.
3. I have, however, seen the inside of a topless bar before.
4. Maybe I am a perv after all? Oh well. Being a perv aint so bad.

Besides, I tend to get a better reaction from most folks when I suggest a topless bar instead of something like planespotting.  Big grin

Where's that guy who's sig says something like "Between planes and boobies, I'll choose boobies"?

Anyway, thanks for sending me the info, SH, and I wish you all the best time possible!  Smile

Damn! I was just there 3 weeks ago!

So was I. I have a second cousin who is a propulsion manager up in Everett. I remember that I got a 'behind the scenes' tour there a few years ago. Got to go into aircraft that were under construction! But this was about a month before 9/11, so I don't know if that's possible anymore...

Fri 19th, yes, 20th still iffy.
Its the wife thing. She has me committed to something I am working on getting out of. Fri 19th is OK; however, and I will make the entire day available. Just get me a schedule and the relative costs, and when we hook up and I'll be there.

Look forward to meeting all of you.

Here are some more details about the schedule of events:

Thursday night - still waiting for details from Steve and Garrett on this one. Guys, please fill us in when you have everything determined.

Friday

* I will go to Everett early and get tickets for the Boeing tour, so if you plan on attending I need to know by Thursday night.
* Those of you down by the airport or in Renton should plan on heading out at 8:30 am.
* Meet at spotting area / picnic tables at Paine Field, Everett, at 9:30 am. Directions will follow in a later post. AeroWeanie will provide maps to the Me-262 facility.
* Me-262 production facility tour (CONFIRMED for 10 am)
* Museum of Flight restoration facility tour at Everett
* Lunch - my suggestions is that we hit Wendy's near PAE and eat on the picnic tables / lawn near the tower.
* Boeing 747 plant tour at Everett - I think we should probably shoot for the 2 or even 3 pm tour instead of 1, since we have no firm plans after this, and then we can take more time at the MoF restoration facility. We'll need to decide by Thursday night.
* Possible sightseeing flights from PAE or BFI. At the moment nobody's told me whether or not they're in for this so I might just find out prices at some places at PAE and we'll play it by ear if we go or not. We could also take KBFISpotter up on his offer to visit Aeroflight and see BFI.
* Dinner - Steve and Garrett are working on this
* Night out in Seattle - Steve and Garrett are working on this

Saturday

* Museum of Flight at BFI - meet at the museum at 10 am.
* Picnic at watertower at SEA - meet at the water tower at 2 pm.

We can do the picnic a couple of ways. We can either have a potluck kind of thing where everybody brings something, or you can all pay me say $10 and I can cater it. This means that I'll go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of prepared food (fried chicken, , veg, salads, chips, drinks, etc.). I'll also get paper plates, cutlery, napkins, etc. I will need everybody from in town to please bring chairs, and bring spares if you have them. I have four and can bring a blanket too. Does anybody have a folding table that they can bring and we can set food up on? Failing that, will anybody be driving a pickup truck so we can set up the food in the bed? Also, I'll need a few coolers for the drinks. Let me know what you guys think about the picnic and what you can bring.

Directions to Paine Field for Friday

Take I-5 north out of Seattle to the 128th Street SW exit in South Everett. Turn west at the end of the ramp.
Proceed on 128th as it curves right and turns into Airport Road.
You will proceed quite some distance along Airport Road.
Turn left into Paine Field at 100th Street SW.
Follow the road as it curves around to the right.
You'll see a fence in front of you. Just before the fence on the left are a couple of concrete picnic tables and some parking spots. This is where we'll meet. Park in the spots on the left, or I think we can get away with parking in the lot on the right as long as we stay with our cars.
From here we'll follow AeroWeanie's directions to the Me-262 facility.
Please be at the picnic tables at 9:30!!!

Here's a Google map of the area.
