LH A330 At LHR?

Tue Jul 26, 2005 6:40 pm

The below two photo's show that a LH A330 is at the Gate at LHR, is this just an equipment change or a regular flight? Usually LH use AB6's and A32X's and 737's to LHR?

They are not scheduled into LHR- and visited either due to late equipment change or load factor demand. Ther have also been 747-400 & A340 visits due to medical emergencies on board.

That must be an equipment change. Would be interesting to know the time of the day to identify the flight number. I was on LH4738 July 19th and 25th, on the 19th it was a 321 and yesterday an AB6. Aircraft used regularly on FRA/LHR is anything from 733s over 319/320/321 to AB6.

Would be good value for the money to do that ride in an 333, preferrably with new C class seats.

I´d also say it´s an A300.

I cannot see any winglets.

I have to agree. I can't see an LH A330 in those two pics... It doesn't have the typical shape and winglets and just look at the inboard ailerons. An A330 only has them on the outboard wing. So I also think it's an A300-600R. Otherwise that would be a nice equipment change...

It is definately an A300. No winglets and also too short between door 1 and 2 to be an A330 (though the -200 is almost as short as the A300).

It's definitely an A300, LH has no reason to send A330's to London other than for an emergency substitute aircraft. I've never seen an LH A330 at LHR, there has been LH A340/747 IIRC as medical diversions.

or load factor demand.

Apart from the fact that the plane on the photo is an A300 (as others have already mentioned), this wouldn´t make sense as the A333 has only 221 while the A306 can take up to 280 passengers.

LHR does get LH 744s in occasionally actually as scheduled, there was one in a couple of weeks ago. I was out on the apron doing work experience and couldn't believe my luck when it was closely followed in by an Air Algerie A330. It's quite common during the summer months to get carriers like LH scheduling heavies in when the loads rocket.

However I've never seen an LH A330 @ LHR, as said above, doesn't really make sense.
