There was a lot of talk earlier in the week about imminent announcements from AA. The new lie-flat business seat and the new transatlantic 757 initiative were among the rumoured news items.

In another thread, the word is that the 757 initiative is being dropped for the time being. That seems unlikely in my opinion, but let's talk about it.

Anyone know anything about all the supposed news from AA?

The announcements will be made this week but they pertain only to upgrades to the 767's premium cabins ( lie-flat beds, digital entertainment system), the installation of flagship suites and lie-flat business class seats in all 777's. There are plans for the 757's but no announcements about it will be made yet.

And here I thought this thread had died entirely. Thanks for the response. I'm still interested to hear any additional details on the new entertainment system AA will be installing. And I'm dying to see the new seat.

So AA will be announcing the details of the 767/777 J reconfiguration and the new seats tomorrow or Friday? Can't wait!

Only 757 flights to Europe over 8 hours, that require crew rest seats, have been shelved for summer 2006, because the company and unions (APA and APFA) have yet to come to an agreement on how many.

What is the point of complicating things with a new subfleet of 757s if the bulk of the expansion strategy for which they were intended can't be carried out?

Again, No announcements about 757's will be made yet as they have not determined the new destinations yet as far as I am concerned. Rumors are a few Brazilian destinations out of Miami and a couple European destinations out of JFK and BOS will be added so they will have the need for the winglets on the 757's.....

The most immediate priority is to maintain competitiveness in the premium cabin as the 2 class 767 has fallen behind industry standard missing lie-flat seats. Speaking from experience...the current cabin is truly a disaster....messy, Uncomfortable and almost impossible to work!! The DVD/Bose headsets kits will be replaced with a new entertainment system ( good idea, as there is no room for all that stuff on your tray table) and finally the cabin will be redesign based on F/A feedback so that passengers can crossover from one aisle to the other (both lavs are on the left side of the cabin) so not to cross trough the galley, on inconvenience another passenger.

It is my understanding the entertainment system will consist of digital files so passengers can start the programming, pause, forward or rewind at will, as opposed to waiting for a cycle that plays simultaneously which is what the Rockwell Collins system on the 777 currently has.

I believe the new cabins will be some of the best in the industry.
