Call me crazy but I think they would be crazy to strike.  Smile

Last I heard was the mechanics were only willing to offer about $100 million in concessions where the management was wanting more like $175 million. One person for the mechanics said put another proposal out there and let's talk so hopefully something will happen.

Eastern.

Just got a call from somone that is close to the situation - and it does not look good.

There are a few options that can happen still....

1. a complete walk off
2. be locked out from NWA
3. Show up for work as normal then do some type of CHAOS at different times.

If management raised fares $3 they could make up the $75 million difference in a year.

Well, it's 15 minutes to go. So will any A.netter be going out to DTW, MSP, MEM or other locations for some on the scene reporting? I'm covering DTW. I'm going to take some pictures.

Can anybody in MSP or DTW tell us if the local news is covering it? Also has a large group formed at these airports?

As An AA employee, we wish the best for NW, not to file for CH 11, that will be very bad for the entire industry, and for the airline careers.

Quote:
A strike seems all but inevitable.

The Assistant National Director of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association said on Friday evening that mechanics were being asked to leave Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport.

Steve MacFarlane said the mechanics were asked to sign a payroll sheet, indicating they left early and would be paid for their full shift. He went on to say that the replacement mechanics were being escorted onto the property.

Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch confirmed that "some" mechanics were "being relieved"
before their scheduled shifts ended, but wouldn't specify where. He said the mechanics would be paid through the end of their shifts.

MacFarlane said, short of a miracle, a strike would take place.

No,our old CEO, John Dasburg left NW to head up Diageo, the food distributer which owned Burger King, and few more fast food chains.

>> If management raised fares $3 they could make up the $75 million difference in a year.

The problem is no other airline would, and thus would be at a huge competitive disadvantage for NW. Look at the difficulty at adding fuel surcharges, a while back DL went it alone and added a $5 charge, no one followed suit and DL had to retract the charge within a short period of time. Unless other airlines match a $3 increase (and they have zero reason to do so) it would never work.

Other airlines (except the LCC's) also need to start showing a profit, or at least start getting these losses lower. I'd be more than happy to pay $3 more on a plane ticket if it meant saving some workers from lay-off's and such.

Find another 40 million people who feel the same way and NW will be good to go.
