Fedex Caravan @ SAN?

Sat Aug 27, 2005 6:57 am

I have been seeing quite a few Cessna Caravan's at SAN lately wearing the Fedex guise. Where are these planes going to? My first guess would be Imperial Valley (aka El Centro or Yuma). Anyone know?

You know what, I just responded to your post about the "boxy" aircraft at SAN, saying that these were operated by Ameriflight on cargo operations. Now that I think of it, I think Ameriflight may instead (or also) operate those Cessnas for FedEx out of SAN. They also usually arrive from El Centro near the end of the day.

A good resource to check arrivals at SAN is Flytecomm. Go to http://www.flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight and enter "SAN" into the "Arrival Airport" prompt in the "Advanced users" section of the box that shows up. Click "Go" and a page of all the day's arrivals at SAN will show up, showing times, airlines, and aircraft type.

FedEx absolutely does not use Amerifright for Feeder Ops.

Those aircraft you refer to are operated by WestAir for FedEx.

Ameriflight operates no airplanes in colors other than their own. They also don't operate 208s.

Quoting B744F (Reply 4):

The boxy aircraft is a Shorts 360 operated by Skyway.

If Ameriflight only operates in its own colors, then the FedEx aircraft are probably WestAir

I saw 2 sitting on the ramp at IPL the other day. Every day at around 6 or so they would leave and head West.

Also FedEx Feeder aircraft operated by WestAir. Geesh, do I have to do all your research for you?

The caravans flew IPL-ONT for several years but our aircraft overnight count peaked at 18 when West Air had to cover SBA with four caravans. We have been using SAN for the IPL flights for over six months and it is working out well. Mike West Air Dispatch

Yeah the caravans got up to 18 in count just before christmas of 2004, I really remember because I was the PM teamleader that ran the feeder operation and believe me that was no easy task to handle 18 feeders in about an 1hour and 5 minutes.
