What security implications can that have. Its not too hard to follow a van that has the emirates crew from JFK to their hotel. All you need is a car.(there was a topic about this a whle ago, and it turned out to be quite easy to find out where the crews stayed)

And once you get ahold of the crew... One cant just make them get you in the plane.

I think if someone wanted to follow them (stalk them) thats one thing but to give random info out over the internet is not too great in my opinion.

if it was your sister etc, would you like her whereabouts being broadcast etc?

maybe not such a security issue as such but it would be thoughtful maybe to not give out such info!

Airliner World magazine had a feature about DXB-NYC with EK a few months ago, where they mention the length of the crew's layover. So I don't think it is restricted information...

There sure are a lot of narrow minded and ignorant folk around here aren't there? Crew rape, stalking, and general harrasment have all happened in my 14 years as crew. I know it will never be totally secure but in this day and age as few people know as possible is better.

Think before you post uninformed sarcastic posts.

Speedmarque and Positiverate - I couldn't agree more. Not only have terrorists tried to steal uniforms and IDs, but they have done so successfully, and more times than one may think.

If a stranger were to walk into a hotel, and ask a hotel employee about the wereabouts of a specific airline crew, the hotel employee is prohibited from giving out such information.

For those in this thread who think it is OK to follow a crew from the airport to the hotel (stalk them), I guess you all think it is OK to know what room they are staying in as well?

Im not saying that its ok to follow a crew and stalk them, but if someone really wanted to know (for the wrong reasons), they are not gonna base their information off a internet forum.

Someone could say they stay at the woudorf(sp?) for $5K a night, that dosent make it true.

Im just saying that its not "top secret" information, beacuase anyone with half a brain could get it if they wanted it.

Sorry guys I have to go with MNeo on this. Firstly hotel staff are prohibited from giving info about ANY guests, just as you can't want up to an airline desk and ask if someone specific is on the flight. OK, I don't know where EK crew stay, or BA crew, put I guarantee it isn't a secret. Any airport hotel like the Sheraton probably has crews staying there, or at any given time there is a crew waiting for shuttle buses or taxis. If a BA crew all pile on to a Westin bus, I'm guessing that's where they're staying. Suggesting that people are stalking the halls trying to steal uniforms and passes is getting a bit paranoid. You're more likely to get your uniform lost sending it for overnight dry cleaning than a terrorist break into your room and rob it.

I think for their protection crews should be totally veiled exposing only their eyes. That way if pax from a given flight see them on the street they can't be followed. On top fo that instead of shuttle buses, crews should be ferried in unmarked convoys with tinted windows. In the interest of security...

Give me a break. People are so pedantic at times.

Emirates like all major airlines have partner hotels chances are good that they stay with one of them. Bad things happen - terrorism amongst the bad obviously but the duty of protecting crews falls on their employers and law enforcement not aviation hobbyists.

American Airlines puts flight attendants and pilots laying over in Ft. Lauderdale up at the Renaissance Ft. Lauderdale Hotel. I could barely tell though, because they showed up in an unmarked van, wearing black robes over their uniform and quickly ran up to their rooms. The guards carrying AK-47s that escorted them into the building sorta gave it away though.

I wonder if the FBI is after me now?

For sure, we should give also the crews some privacy. On the other hand it really starts to be ridiculous if the hotel is a secret information. If this would be the case, the crew would need to go every time into a different place, split them up and, and this is most important, change the clothes at the airport and walk out dressed up neutrally.

Anyone of you who stayed once at any 4 or 5 star hotel near an international airport can name 3 or more airlines who stayed there.

There is no need to rape crews to get a badge or a uniform. We are in the computer age and anybody can simply duplicate those incl. the magnetic part on the back. Pins, wings and logos can be ordered on the internet. Bye the way, passports have been copied centuries before as well!

You may not be completely right  Wink

The thing is, that an airline normally doesn't pay the rates individuals are paying. If I say this, I mean not paying by far! An airline is a very interesting client, as they normally do occupy up to 20 rooms for one crew and this 365 days a year! Any hotel needs to find such clients first.

4 and 5 star hotels normally give the best discounts and it is not unusual to end up quite cheaper in a *****+ than in a good 3 star. If we are trading hotel prices, we are normally dealing with fares for "one time overnights" 40 to 60% under the normal price. If it will be for a series of flights it will be below this.

I know where EK crews stay @ LHR....saw a bunch of EK F/A's and pilots leaving the hotel I was staying at just last week  biggrin  (I won't mention it for respect of their privacy).........that being said, I saw them at another hotel a few years ago........so maybe they change from time-to-time..

also, when I was @ OAK last month, I saw a courtesy hotel van (I won't mention it tough out of respect for other's privacy) pick up B6 crew..now thats not being to discreet....

Not all hotels haves busses. For example, in NYC most airlines put their crews up in Manhattan hotels. Manhattan hotels are too far from the airports to have their own vans so airlines have to charter a van or small bus for their crews to get them to Manhattan.

I saw the El Al crews at my hotel when I stayed in NYC. I stayed in this place for 1 night until I moved to the Novotel Manhatten. It was shitty and as I was leaving I saw the EL AL crews getting onto their bus. It was not a hotel from a chain, but rather an independant hotel.

It is true a lot of airline crews from EWR and JFK stay in Manhatten hotels. I ate at a few restaurants in different hotels and got to meet lots of airline crews who were happy to have a chat with me.

If people want to find out where crew stays it is pretty easy. I fail to see the security concern of giving out that info here. If someone wants to find out, they will. When I was in NYC Virgin Atlantic crew were at my hotel, it was funny seeing the lobby filled with red coat virgins.  Smile

O all of your get your panties out of a wad. All one has to do is be at a hotel when the crew arrives and you know right then which hotel the crew is staying at. I bet you can walk into many of the hotels in NYC and get see a crew departing or arriving the hotel. We are talking about NYC not Lago's here.

I was at the Radisson LAX few weeks ago and the Air Tahiti Nui crew stay there. While I was having breakfast one of the waiters asked if I was a member of their crew... Same thing happened to me in Mumbai, hotel staff at Sheraton asked if I was with the Qantas crew. I must look like a F/A!

SQ crew stay at the Swissotel in Sydney, Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, Kowloon Hotel in HKG, Leela Kempinski in BOM. QF crew stay at the Westin in LAX, Langham Place in HKG, Stamford in SIN blah blah... I could go on for hours. All this is just gleaned from chatting with crew on planes or seeing them in their uniforms in hotel lobbies.

It is ridiculous to say this is a security hazard - I always chat with crew about what hotels they stay at. It is not at all a secret.

Dkny it is a big deal for certain countries. In 1978 an El AL crew were ambushed outside their hotel in London as they were getting off the bus. One stewardess was murdered and pedestrians were wounded. Here is the story from the BBC.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/d...gust/20/newsid_2546000/2546593.stm

Milesdepartment Australia is not at war with anybody so I can understand why the QF crews are open about where they stay.

By the way I had no idea Air Luxor flew to New York. I assume it was a charter flight.

To prevend crews to get stalked, maybe it's an idea to build crew bunkers at airports. The crews can take a secret elevator down to the basement where everything is safe and secure. No daylight, no fun during your lay-over either. But hey, you're safe!

Cheers!  wave

a lot of you people are extremely paranoid. yes, there have been crew rapes and robberies and all that sort of thing, but as mentioned before it's not like you can't easily find out where the crews are staying by just watching them after their flight. Airline crews stay in uniform, and usually walk together to get to the marked hotel van (you know, the van that says the name of the hotel and the street address of it). Bottom line is if airline crews were super duper concerned about someone finding the place they stay at they would take a lot more precautions in getting to that hotel. Don't flame people for asking genuine questions, I'm sure a lot of us have wondered where the crews stay at. I've straight up asked crew members on flights before casually about where they stay at and no one has ever been like "I'm sorry that is restricted information and cannot be disseminated to you".

Correct, I would recommend eBay for airline uniforms and Thailand for airline ID's.

When I was in Bangkok I saw that you can buy all kind of fake ID's on the street, and yes, among them was even an Air France fake ID (I don't know if other airline ID's were available, too).

The Hotel Pennslyvania has definately seen better days! My high school graduation in 1977 was held in the ballroom there when it was known as the Statler Hilton. About 20 yrs ago I was staying in a cheap hotel in Queens and was quite surprised to see the KLM crews were staying there.
