New Oz Airline?

Sat Sep 17, 2005 12:34 am

It would appear that another new Australian airline might be starting up. If this is old news please tell me, however 'Gold Airways' is in the process of hiring LAME's, pilots, cabin crew and a few A320 aircraft for operations beginning later this year.

Obviously not the fanfare that came with Ozjet or Virgin Blue!

Rather sketchy info at the moment, but it comes with a website
www.flygold.com.au

Any thoughts?

Not sure if the market will take another new entrant, I'm sure Virgin Blue and Qantas will ensure that in the end if it actually launches.

I do remember hearing about this new start up a few months ago. Just looked at the Gold web-site and the booking list of airports looks just like QFs set up.

Yes, they are planning a December launch & are flying with the spirit of Ansett!

It will be a tough ask, however they have been working on this venture for nearly 3 years now & it will be great to see it come to fruition! The backers are looking at it now.

Cheers & I hope soon we can all 'Fly Gold'!

hey all,

sounds like a good idea, but this will be the 5th major airline in the australian market.. what niche could it fill? A charter carrier is new in aus (along the lines of usa 3000?)

maybe stoddart should join up with these people and run 1 luxury service within the carrier. just an idea, but somehow as a standalone carrier i can not see ozjet working. only time will tell i suppose.

this will be the 3rd carrier based in melbourne. will they be at avalon or at tullamarine?

You'd have thought Paul Stoddart would pick something like this for Ozjet ... it does sound more "upmarket" ...

Question for Gold is, why have a "find schedule" on the web-site when there are no flights to be searched for?!

And will anybody really apply for any of those jobs?

Interesting times in australian aviation.

Does anyone thoink that Virgin Blue will ever serve Avalon? Some flights QLD may work, or even possibly a WA flight.

How much growth potential would people consider that Avalon (or MEL for that matter) has? With all these new carriers there may well be many empty seats going out.

Proably not... but you never know - remember that Avalon also serves Geelong & the Western district (including the Great Ocean Road)

you just never know in aviation these days what will happen and what will work it seems.

yes, i agree that the market is becoming saturated, as there just is not the market to support all these carriers.

there also does not appear to be much room to innovate (serve new airports) which exists in other markets.

I recieved notification that they are recruiting from an agency.

Maybe it is true, maybe it is not, but as mentioned before, do we need another airline?

The aussie aviation market is growing though at what rate I don't really know.I don't think OzJet will work. People don't want to pay for a businessclass seat when you might as well fly DJ or Jetstar and get it for a third of the price. Is this an LCC or just a normal 1 like QF. One thats bothers to serve meals (even if they're not so good).

OzJet uses 732's, would they be noisy at all, and will it be cheaper to ride one of QF's new, quiet A332's in Business Class or cheaper on OzJet?
