MSNBC has a tight shot showing the gear is definitely twisted to the side at 90 degrees and they also show it dumping fuel... So I guess this answers the question of whether or not it can dump fuel

It would have to dump fuel - since it was enroute to jfk... lots of fuel to burn off... if it cant dump fuel it'll be up there for a while..

maybe not...

Jet Blue Plane Trying to Make Emergency Landing

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: September 21, 2005
Filed at 7:51 p.m. ET

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- A Jet Blue airliner was dumping fuel over the ocean Wednesday afternoon as officials tried to determine how to make an emergency landing with the plane's front wheels turned sideways and unable to retract.

The plane left Burbank Airport after 3 p.m. for New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Donn Walker.

Jet Blue flight 292 was circling the Long Beach Airport, about 30 miles south of Burbank. Walker said the Airbus A320 was dumping fuel over the Pacific.

No other details were immediately available. Forest Hills, N.Y.-based Jet Blue could not be reached for comment.

good question very good possibility the pax could be watching themselves if cockpit did not shut it off which would shades of the aa dc10 at ord and normally you want to be about 10k pounds on fuel on arrival but this thing probably was around 35k pounds on departure and just saw a clear pic of the nose gear on msnbc the gear is good but the tires are turned left but dont think saw fuel dump think saw apu puffing which i am sure is on to help burn fuel

They will be circling for THREE hours? That's per KABC.

Since it was a BUR-JFK departure, loaded with fuel for that flight, and the A320 doesn't have a fuel dump system, yes, they just might hold that long until they get down to the max landing weight....

Nose carriage definitely looks locked to 90 deg. That is the wheel carriage I imagine, not the entire gear as the media so ignorantly states. Must not be able to retract into the well. Also the MSNBC is speculating blame on fly by wire. Uhhhh! Ignorant!

This incident is relatively easy to handle. You dump as much fuel as you practically can, then use a full flaps approach with minimum speed and try to keep the nose as high for as long as you can ( a degree or two of extra nose-up attitude during rotation would help) and then just accept a dragging roll down the runway when the nosewheel strut collapses.

Should be no major problem.

This willl be what pilots call "walking the dog." Keep the nose up on landing for as long as possible, then gently bring it down. Usually this is a trick for an airshow, here it's dead serious.

OK the whole gear assembly is at about 45 degrees not the carriage.

This may sound strange, but as the aircraft does not have fuel-dump capabilities, and therefore has to circle for hours, why not just go to JFK? It'll be less of an inconvenience for the pax and will get the aircraft to B6's maintenance facilities.

why don't they land wheels up to avoid breaking off the main gear(which will probably take somethings with it) and they also don't need to worry about the front of the plane falling and landing on the cockpit adding to the possibility of breakup due to stress?

I also caught msnbc claiming that that dc3 was a b6 flight BS
If Continental had a hub at DFW with nonstop flights I would always fly them, unfortunantely good things take time.

The long runway 22/04 or better yet, go to the dry lakebed. They have a long history out there of handling this sort of thing.
