I just saw outside my backyard, in a Northwesterly direction, up relatively high on the horizon a kind of spiraly phosphor light type thing

It had a leading aircraft that was giving off a huge white glow...looked like a comet...me and my roomates snapped a few pictures of it.

This one came out the best:

Anyone have any idea what this is?

Nevermind...sat launch from Vandenburg AFB.

It's the streaks from the rocket launched at Vandenber AFB in California. Don't know if it's a test or a real thing but it's a rocket launch.

The spent fuel and exhaust from a ballistic missile launched from Vandenberg AFB near Lompoc. I used to find out about the tests ahead of time and go sit on a hill and watch. You could see each stage fall off and the next stage light off. It was so cool.
Just found this
