AA 738 With Winglets

The first of what I hope to be many more arrived DFW this morning 10/29/05 for Tulsa. Just wish I had my camera.

Just a few stops over the next 5 days.

It looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the winglets is a small red/white/blue strip with AA.com just above that.

It still surprises me that American neglects 738s on some of its hub- northwest routes such as PDX, not sure or not if SEA has them yet or not, I know they were/are there for the transcontinental, shit, for all I know maybe they are into PDX now...that 3 and half hour haul on the 80 is by all means very comfortable to me...and I don't mind them, noisy in the back, but if your in first, well...it Mise will be a 733 running with one engine. I know they (MD83) have quite a range, I think its a substantional amount further than the 737 classics Then again, I've heard that all AA's 800s are flying out of MIA, im sure to the hubs and then continuing out to a select number of other markets, along with the southern intl routes. Any info while we are on the topic???

Sounds great, I can't wait to see the plane! I really like it when there are writings or logos on these huge 737NG winglets.

Flyboy80... most of the 737s are concetrated in MIA, but DFW has a sizeable operation as well. All but one or two of the DFW-LGA routes are 737s and all DFW-SNA flights are 7-3s. PDX is still all -80s and SEA is a mix of -80s and 757s. The 737s also make cameo appearances from DFW in BOS, BDL, FLL, LAX, TUL, IAH and MSP. This is by no means a complete list, but it gives you an idea.

The 737s also fly out of BOS, LGA and LAX to cities other than DFW and MIA. Again, there are probably others, this is just a rough list.

With fuel prices the way they are, I'm sure we will begin seeing winglets on more B-737-NGs, B-757s, B-767s, MD-80s and others. I'm not just saying on AA jets, but other carriers too. Winglets give 3%-8% fuel savings. That is enough for the winglets to pay for themselves within 1-2 years.

TZ and WN have been enjoying the savings for a while now, on their B-737-700/800s.

Out of curiosity, what will the extended range be on the 738's with winglets? Is AA hoping to improve efficiency or extend the range for thinner South America flying, or both?

Came into MIA yesterday, landed on time but then the pilot took a wrong turn or got lost in the maze of construction going on at MIA. Went to the wrong side of E concourse, LOL, had to turn him around and get him to the right gate on the other side.

20 min taxiing around after touchdown............ Wink

Aircraft looks FABULOUS though, seeing her make the turn around E and pulling into the gate, all nice polished silver and those winglets was great.

While I have to admit the freshly polish job looks GREAT, almost like a new airplane, I was hoping both the stripes and aa.com would have been much larger, I thought the whole point of having dot.com titles on an airplane was so people could "read" them, i.e advertising !

As of right now just the one 737 and twenty 757ER. From what I've heard if the numbers on fuel savings are what the OEM says they are then more will be on the way.

I'd think AA would want to use the 738 w/winglets on the transcons they have to save fuel. Maybe after they test them on shorter flights?

--WINGLET PROJECT GETS UNDERWAY IN TULSA--/
Working together to reduce fuel consumption, Tulsa mechanics have started to install winglets on 20 Boeing 757s. Winglets allow an airplane to fly a certain payload using less fuel, more payload using the same amount of fuel or the same payload farther. The one B737 to be outfitted with winglets is now in service. Operating a single B737 in addition to the B757s gives American the ability to observe the fuel-saving potential of winglets on two aircraft types without having to make a large capital commitment. Yet another strategic move: the winglets bear the AA.com logo.

I was wondering why AA would fit only one 737 with the winglets while fitting 20 757s with the winglets for the same purpose of testing the aircraft with winglets? It will be great to see all these aircraft, don't get me wrong, but I was only wondering why these numbers. Anybody know? Is AA more interested in getting the results from the 757 to possibly install winglets on their entire 757 fleet sooner?

Is there a date set on when the 1st AA 752/winglets will depart TUL. I can't believe I missed the 738 departing TUL...I sure don't want to miss the 757. One thing I did notice is the frequency of AA 75's flying into TUL.

Well I flew into TUL last night and happen to see a 757 at the MX ramp but without winglets. I've been checking the tracker every morning and afternoon to check for AA 757 test flights out of TUL.

If only AA had more of them. I stopped flying AA because I was usually stuck on the MD80s or crappy inside 757s out of LAX, and I don't like them on AA. But when I got the occasional 738, that was a pleasure.

Flew LAX-MCO on 738 roundtrip in F (when AA still had that flight), and it was great, including a transcon F service with menus and sundaes and the rest.
