Wed Nov 30, 2005 8:48 pm

Hi, Does anybody know when the above will get a config change from a 2-class A/C to a 3-Class A/C, I believe it's due to be Re-configurated this winter. Many thanks from Timetable.

Wasn't this the a/c that slid off the runway in BKK a few years ago?

It didn't slide off the runway. That would have been a crash and we all know that Qantas don't crash.
It simply went for a round of golf.

I believe it goes in for the re configuration about the middle of this month, and rolls out sometime around late January 2006. Also the last 744 to be fitted with Skybed!

I flew on it to LAX and was sitting in 1A. The FA and I joked about being able smell the rotting grass and mud under the floor, but it did smell funny.

Interesting pics - most of those I hadn't seen before.

Thanks for sharing!

Holy pics!
For any airline other than QF, that's write-off.
Heavily damaged forward fuse, landing gear, engine pylon.... The list goes on.
Interesting to see the upper-deck escape slide opened on top of a tree!

The pictures actually make it look far far worse than the minor incident it was.

All passengers disembarked safely and Qantas retained its record of never having lost a passenger in the jet age.

Boeing actually said that they have repaired far worse than this.

Only a QF fan could possibly call it a "minor incident".

They have - the United Airlines plane between HNL and AKL for example. It went back into service, and it had a massive hole from the cargo door to the upper deck.

It was. No-one died or was injured - the aircraft simply overran the runway.

Qantas was VERY lucky. The only reason they didn't write the plane off was they didn't want a hull loss on thier record. The accident was the result of PILOT ERROR and gross misconduct. Passengers were stuck in a dark plane becasue they delayed evacuation. If it was in one of many other airports they would have all been dead.
