US Air's New Livery

Thu Dec 01, 2005 7:28 am

How many US Air's aircraft have been painted in the new livery? Last week I flew into PHL and out of PHL and did not see any of their aircraft in the new livery. Is it just a small handful of aircraft that are painted? My best time to spot would've been Sunday night when I was flying back to ORD. They loaded us in the plane and then taxied over near the cargo area and we sat there for about an hour and a half because of bad weather in the Chicago area. But it was too dark to see anything other than the lights of the aircraft.

As far as mainline I believe it's only 3 aircraft, 1xA320, 2xB767. There are several AirWis CRJ's painted, IIRC.

I've flown throught CLT twice in the last week and did not see a mainline new-livery aircraft either time. I did, however, see two US Express aircraft (CRJs) that looked pretty good.

I was in PHL Saturday morning at Sunday evening, there was a 767 in the new scheme parked at A-east on sunday evening, and both days I saw numerous AirWis CRJ's taxiing around in the new scheme.

It is just semantics, but 'USAir' has been been 'US Air' for 10 years or so..... They changed their name to 'USAirways' in the early 90's

He could have been talking about their callsign. You know, like when people talk about BA by saying Speedbird, or with HP when they say Cactus.  wink  Hey...it could happen.

I thought one of the planes painted in new colour is out of commission because of the engine problem at AMS, or is it fixed already?

It's not US Air. It's not USAir. It's not USAirways. It is US Airways. U-S (space) A-I-R-W-A-Y-S. Just like it's not Alaskan Airlines, American West or America Airlines.

Actually, USAir became US Airways in 1997.

AirWisky CRJs in USx New Colors are a very common sight over at PHL. They (AirWisky) may very well have the second highest number of flights out of PHL. So if anyone wants to see US' new colors up close and personal so to speak; just come by PHL, especially around Terminal F.

Now that there are two 767s in the new colors, one should be able to see at least one of them at PHL everyday.

I've concluded that it's going to be a while till more aircraft are repainted in the new colors, given the time it takes to apply the paint ........it's a lengthy process, believe me, I've seen it first hand. And they do have alot of aircraft too, so, they'll probably repaint one or two at a time.......maybe when they are scheduled for heavy D-checks is my guess. I remember seeing a mainline 737-300 in the last USAir scheme (before US Airways) as recently as 2002! It most likely got repainted after that. The dark blue US Airways scheme was introduced I believe in 1996 or 1997. So, between those periods, about five or six years it took for the whole fleet to be repainted. I'm guessing about the same amount of time for this transition. Maybe by spring 2006 we'll see a few more and by year's end, about 1/4 of the HP/US fleet will be repainted. Personally, I'd like to see more Express aircraft repainted. I already saw the CRJs. The EMB-170s should look pretty sharp. I bet the Dash 8s for Piedmont and Mesa/America West Express would look nice too!
I used all of my sick days, so now I'm calling in dead.

767-201ER N649US is currently being painted in ARA (New Iberia, La). From what I understand by the end of 2005 there will be 5 767, 3 757, and 3 320 ( 2-US West, 1-US East) in the new livery. The first throwback or Retro Liveries may appear in early 2006 and for now will be on A-320's. I hope this helps ?

There are a buttload of CRJ's in the New Colors, there's almost no way there wasn't one at PHL, but you probably couldn't see them from the cargo ramp, as the express gates are down the other end, towards the beginnings of 17 and 8. I know there is one 767 in the NC that is in service, and an A320. I don't know about anything else.

I think they should change the tail striping to a lighter color, cause tail still looks almost solid in person, even the slight striping that continues into the tail does not contrast enough., maybe continuing the grey from the white into the tail might have looked cool

Personally, I would have liked US Airways to keep the theme planes. They could add one for the State of Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Since US Airways is the official airline for the Panthers, maybe a plane with the Carolina Panthers Logo, like the Cardinals plane.

Anyone know when the first HP planes are to be repainted?

I personally thought those paint schemes were rather unprofessional looking - as in, not the image that says "We fly you to your business."

What I *would* like to see is naming the planes individually. I always thought that was a classy throwback to the shipliner era, and was pleasantly surprised to see it on my Qantas flight a few years back. A plane titled "Pride of Philadelphia" or something like that would be an appropriate, classy way to acknowledge the heritage of the airline's presence in Philly. (Of course, with 300+ planes in the fleet, it wouldn't be hard to make a tribute to as many things as they chose.)

Thanks for the info guys. I flew in on AA and did not see much of US aircraft at PHL, due to a combination of darkness and gate assignments.

Was a decision ever made about the HP-themed planes? Since the merger, I've not heard one iota about the future of those liveries. I was under the assumption that since HP was the one running the new US, that the themed planes wouldn't change except for US Airways titles replacing the current America West titles. Since US is the official airline of the Philadelphia Eagles (yes, I know the 'Birds actually use NW for their charter flights) and having a hub at PHL; a Philadelphia Eagles-themed 757 would be very fitting & appropriate IMHO.

Well given the heritage, PHL is a relatively new comer I would say to the "heritage" of US Airways. The classy thing to do would be "Pride of Pennsylvania", or even classier would be "Pride of Pittsburgh", considering the start of the new US Airways way back here in Southwestern PA, not in Eastern PA. PHL is a big presence now, but if we are talking about "heritage" and not the politics of the situation, you must recognize Southwestern PA and the people here for the sacrifices, past, present, and future to helping bring the new US Airways to where it is today. That is "Heritage".

Theme planes aren't bad, but I have a feeling outside Retro paint, they aren't in US Airways immediate future, at least new ones. Doug Parker hasnt really commented on the future of the "Theme" planes, but I heard him say he wished the Cardinals plane wasnt around, atleast I believe that was the quote during the webcast when I asked the theme plane question.

Well, actually it was Transcontinental and Western Air ("TWA" was only the initials), after Western Air Express merged with Transcontinental Air Transport in 1930. Name was changed to Trans World Airlines in 1950.

I'm not sure the legal name was ever actually just "TWA", at least not before TWA LLC was set up to operate the separate TWA certificate between the time of the AA purchase and the final consolidation of the two carriers.

There are 2 new A-320's being delivered any day now. I have heard they are going straight to the paint shop and another version of the story is that they are coming painted from the factory. We shall know soon enough. Also supposedly starting in January the re-painting begins in earnest.

Of all the US liveries I've seen over the years, this one is my favourite..

Are you sure that picture was taken at PIT? Looks alot like PHL.

Good lord, you are so stupid. I mean, get a life.

"Good Lord" you are so stupid. I mean get a life yourself, fool.

I was referring to what the NEXT name was going to be - as the original question was asked (now is the time for you to lick your finger and run your tracking ball up to the posting I was referring to so you can re-read it.)

Chapter 11 was before (oh yea ... twice!) My prediction for US (or HP or UP or HS or whatever this abomination is gonna be called) is that theyre going right past 11 to Chapter 7 next. Third time's the charm. This disgusting marriage cant win. This is not the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Di. (Even that's a bad analogy . . look how that turned out!!) .... this is a marriage of two desperate crap airlines .. one worse and weaker than the other (your guess which was which) who no one else wanted.. - just like the white trash couple with the knocked up chick and her smelly boyfriend at the drive thru wedding chapel in Las Vegas (see the irony here!?) said ot each other " ... uh ... well ..... might as well get this over with ... "

And the preacher (through the speaker) said .. "I, uh, now pronounce you .. uh, um .. U-S-A-I-R-W-uh, um .. whuuuuuut? Good luck, suckers!"

IMHO, of course!  mischievous
I'M BAAAAAAAACK!

Wow dude you got it right... I mean what are these airlines thinking not hiring you to run them? I mean how could US/HP survive if you say they wont. The people who actually run these airlines absolutely know nothing about the airline business and they got into merger just to fail, cause they didn't do any research, it was just something one of them dreamt and did the next day.

Please guy, grow up. I mean stuff happens and airlines go out of business, but who in their right mind would invest or go into business to fail? Do you actually think your opinions make sense? Who knows if US/HP will last? But can you put your head on a block for any airline?
Look Up

Take a joke. My post was 100% not serious.

I am not even going to reply to the rest of your crap that you posted.
