A380 At GVA In April!

Sat Dec 24, 2005 9:24 pm

According to the very reliable DPTS Association (see http://www.dpts.org/expectedvisitors.html ) , an A380 will perform a low pass without landing at GVA on April the 25 & 26... Great news! Unfortunately no landing... I guess the reasons for that could be:

- Tunnel under the runway not strong enough (but without fully loaded fuel tanks, it should be OK...)

- Taxiways not wide enough

- The most pragmatic reason: since GVA will not see any A380 flights for the next 10 years (except maybe a few Arabian VIP flights), there is no need for Airbus to spend time and money landing at that airport...

Regards and Merry Christmas!

If the landing is on RWY05 then no problems.

How wide need to be the taxiways for the A380?

There will be no need to even visit GVA with a low pass for that reason. Is there a business a/c show at these dates ?

No, EBACE will take place on May the 3rd, 4th and 5th. Maybe the fact IATA has its headquarters in GVA has something to do with Airbus' decision... I guess we will get some explanations in April. Anyway, that's a very good news! I'm already looking forward!!

I thought that was the point of the works in the tunnel too... maybe we're not far off the mark?
would be interesting if we did organise a meeting, though dunno if al that many people could make it

The width of the Taxiway is not an issue : If the Taxiway is wide enough for a B744, then it's OK for the A380.
