Airline Slogans

Fri Feb 03, 2006 10:33 pm

I was just thinking about some of the airline slogans I've heard before and thought that might make a good thread to see which other ones people know.

JetBlue: Somebody Up There Likes You
American: Something Special In The Air
Delta: We Love To Fly And It Shows
Northwest: Some People Just Know How To Fly
United: Fly The Friendly Skies
Frontier: A Whole Different Animal

That is such a good idea that the subject was brought up many times on A.net.

True, this topic comes up frequently. And each time it does, new slogans are added that weren't included before. New members that are joining all the time now have the opportunity to contribute and to learn from others. Discussion, even on a previously discussed topic, is always a good thing.

I do try to point thread-starters to discussions on the same topic that are currently going on here, hopefully getting everyone discussing a current topic in the same thread. I will also often post links to past threads that are the same or similar to a current discussion. But don't get upset over repeat threads - just don't read them.

American, going for a creepy Big-Brother vibe: We Know Why You Fly. (Really? Who told you? I'd really prefer you not know why I'm flying, thank you.)

Delta, going for a completely generic and meaningless slogan: Good Goes Around (But great lands on the first attempt).

Continental: "The Proud Bird with the Golden Tail", "We Really Move Out Tails for You"

I didn't realize that jetBlue used the "Somebody Up There Likes You" slogan, I thought that was DirecTV.

Don't forget after the getting out of bankruptcy protection AC had a slogan for awhile on TV ads : You and I were meant to fly. In the early 90s we had : You say good bye we say hello.

KLM. Die zuverlässige. (see quote for translation)

Another few ones I can think of:

LTU:
Lieber Direkt, LTU. (Preferably direct, LTU.)
Made in Germany. LTU.

LACSA 90's slogan:
LACSA, nos encanta la gente. (LACSA, we love the people)

Condor:
Condor, Ihr Ferienflieger (Condor, your holiday airline).

Quoting Skymileman (Thread starter):
United: Fly The Friendly Skies

I like the current slogan too, it's pretty much to the point (especially with those funny cartoon adverts they have now).

United, it's time to fly.

As for Lufthansa, I don't know when they started with the "There's no better way to fly" slogan but at one point, there were adverts where they used a song I believe by Joe Cocker, don't remember which one it was, but basically it was like their slogan at the time (around the mid-90's).

American, going for a creepy Big-Brother vibe: We Know Why You Fly.

Seems that "why" people fly should be so self-evident as to make AA's slogan sound pitifully trite. When all the smoke blown by airline marketing departments is cleared away, the reason people fly is: to go from point A to B in a matter of minutes or hours rather than hours or days.

However, being hopelessly addicted to throwing convoluted schemes at customers, legacy airlines have created at least one other reason by which they bait people into flying, namely "mileage runs" or flying solely to accumulate more miles in the interest of acquiring more "somethings-for-nothing." Wonder if they'll ever come up with a slogan for the FF games they invite people to play.

American's Current radio ad: "At American Airlines, we know it's the destination, not the flight"

(Talk about a cop out)

and of course, there was Continental's "One Airline can make a difference"

Dunno if that one was ever used for advertising, but they had it plastered all over employee materials for a couple of years.
