Gives you an idea how it would look if they hadn't gone with a new nose.

Maybe you guys don't believe such things but there was a MD80 that had the tail section riveted on that was clocked one hole out. It flew kind of funny for a while.

Looks like the original 7N7, prototype paper airplane for the 757, sans T-tail. Was supposed to have a 727-like nose and fuselage.

Hey, please do it the other way round! A 737 with the 757's nose, that would be nice! I really would love Boeing forever, if they would go and give the 737's next generation the 757 nose.

who cares what it would look like a 737 with a 57 nose would probably be a hell of a lot quieter, and have improved fuel burn.

N805SY was actually the very plane that brought me to college - the flight for move-in anyway, this past August MSP-PHX. Too bad SY doesn't have a mileage program; I only wind up on SY now when their fares are much cheaper than both NW and HP/US on that route - usually they are within about $5 of each other.

The DL mod plane with the 737 nose actually looked quite realistic, despite the mismatch.

That's it! And a nice retro scheme we'll never see. Is that your model, or did you source the photo from somewhere? Nice work at any rate.

I had that exact magazine shown under the model, must have looked at it enough times to render the pages nearly translucent.

I don't like it. I think it looks too sharp and dated. I do genuinely prefer Airbus noses, they look more modern and aesthetically pleasing.

I agree with Canadian North the 707/727/737 cockpit section is the best nose design on airliners.
I really like the A300 nose, too, therefore I like all Airbus widebodies but I dont care much for the A320 nose section it looks boring in comparison to the 737.
I was really shocked as Boeing decided to get rid of the "eyebrown" windows but I have to admit the 737 still looks awesome even without its eyebrowns.

Nah, it's up there with the BMW double oval and Mercedes three pointed star. Very much a defining piece of styling.

The Boeing narrowbody cockpit window profile is one of those classic pieces of design that has endured, same with Douglas and the DC8-DC9 profile (which is much prettier!) and the DC10-MD11 widebody layout.

Thats like swearing in a church to me.....
The nose of a 737 fits perfectly on a 737 and the nose of a 757 fits perfectly on a 757. Please don`t mix them up...
what makes the 757 sexy is the combination of the nose section, high landing gear and slim body. If you put the 757 nose on a 737 this whole effect is messed up (and vica versa).
Let that be clear  Wink

To accept the 767 flight deck and windows, leading to a common type rating.

Why did they make a new nose for the 757? Bigger space inside? I mean they still use a 30-year old design on the 737ng (with some modifications just lately) and if the nose of the 757 is more aerodynamicly efficient, why havn't they used that one on the 737? Yeah sure

The modified pic does indeed look like a tupolev to me

I sure hope Y1 has the high position of the 757. I think it gives it much better presence, and not to mention it gives you greater opportunity for derivatives, as stretched versions would be less subject to tail strikes. I think the 737 is not a particularly attractive aircraft, and hope that Boeing takes more of a 757 approach to the Y1 than 737 design. Just my two cents. What is the probability that Y1 will have a T tail?

It will. Study the history of the 737 and you'll know why it was low to the ground (as well as the 707, dc9, 727, f100, etc). The A320/757 came much later at a time when being low to the ground wasn't as important, and the 797 will be 25 years later than the A320, where being low to the ground is basically a non-issue all over the world (and there will be PLENTY of used 737s on the market for those few locations where it is really vital).

Why don't you enlighten us as to why it was so important... While I am a boeing fan, I am not a fan of the 737, as I feel it looks short and squatty. Save me the trouble, and tell me why it was so important.
