BMI Summer Charters

Sat Feb 11, 2006 8:04 am

Hi,

Does anybody know what aircraft type/s will be operating the BMI charter flights from the likes of BFS, EMA, GLA, ABZ, BHD and MAN this summer. I believe a lot of them have been operated by A321's in the past few years, but with the A321's supposedly leaving the fleet, i wondered if anybody knew what would operate instead?

Thanks
Stephen

BMI have not got a 767 on lease (i believe) in Star Allience livery, maybe that could be replacing it.

Last summer BMI used their A320's at ABZ for the charters, and used the E135/145 for the LHR routes.

The ERJs were only used down to LHR at the Weekends IIRC. BMI mainly had charters from Aberdeen to palma AFAIK.

Unlikely - it is doing the BGI/ANU/LAS flights from MAN at the moment, before going to LHR to operate RUH or JED.

I'd imagine A320 and A321, the 321's haven't all left yet. I'd imagine BD will have them used for charters, as they are probably some of BD's best loaded flights.

The charters from Aberdeen are only on the weekend anyway, so makes sense.

One odd pick out of the BMI charters this summer that i found was an aircraft operating BFS-AGP-BHD-AGP-BFS. Do they really need to do a W flight with an airport in the same city as the other? Especially as Belfast Aldergrove is the main charter airport for Belfast, with City home to the commercial/business flights.

Also, the runway at Belfast City seems pretty short. Baring in mind a lot of the LHR A320/1's seem to have to slam on the brakes pretty hard after landing. I would have thought that a similar aircraft full of passengers, luggage and fuel may require some serious power and braking to get in and out of there.

BMI had a summer charter at NCL last year to ZTH on a sunday and used an A321, but I don't think they are being drafted in this year.

I heard that BMI were actually looking to increase their IT charter work. A strange move considering the decline in the market for charters and the fact that most tour operators have their own in-house carrier to fly the vast majority of their programmes.

BMI had been operating GLA-VRN on saturdays over the last three summers or so.
Wonder what will happen this year too...
Any ideas for a signature?

From a thread last week I discovered that BD will also be operating a LHR-Constanta charter each Saturday between May and September. Not sure of what other charters they might also be operating from LHR.

LHR-Constanta? and a charter service at that! how bizarre!

But then anything from BMI should come as no suprise these days. Is the flight to Constanta under contract to tour operators?

I know the Black Sea resorts of Romania have been featured by UK tour ops in the past. Glad to see the Romanian resorts making a comeback, hope they sell well and bring in much needed income to the area.

BMI are operating a number of charters for Kosmar Holidays to the Greek Islands, Turkey and Cyprus from East Midlands Airport.

What is the config of BMI's charter flights?

Hey,

Won't bmi do any charters from EDI this year? I can't remember if they done them last year but a few years back when i went to Heraklion on holdiay from GLA, i saw that there was a BD A321 on the Tarmac at Heraklion that was heading for EDI.

And i still take it the BD A321's are still used on some Domestic flights like LHR-EDI?

Thanks
Mike

Supposed to be Bastia and FAO, not sure if what aircraft type though. Think it was A320s last summer, to FAO atleast.

Yes, and most LHR-EDI flights are A321s, LHR-BHD is mainly A321s too I think, not sure about GLA, MAN etc.

The A321 operates the first LHR out of MAN each day before heading off to EDI and back again and is quite widely used for domestic routes although we do see more and more of the A319 too. That's a nice little aircraft.

On charters the A321 has a config of 215.

The charters are operated under tour operators, hence why you can't book direct with BMI. In affect, BMI just provide the metal, so i don't think the strange charter flights are really much to do with BMI themselves.

BMI are going to be doing a number of charters out of EMA and BHX the ones from EMA have already been mentioned, not sure about BHX. However they are recruiting for crew for a dual base at BHX/EMA

Thanks for the answers to my question. Can anyone help me out for bmi A321 times on EDI-LHR?

I am planning to go to LHR from FRI 07 APR Departing Late, and coming back SUN 09 APR Departing any time. Can anyone tell me if the A321 will be operating EDI-LHR-EDI on any of those dates?

Thanks
Mike

Guaranteed to be, not sure exactly what flights though, most of them. You might find an ERJ on one or two of the flights on the Sunday too.

ooo, an ERJ might be quite fun. Infact, i was quite lucky to travel back on an A321 last year when i flew to LHR. It was a Sunday and about 4pm/5pm ish.

I was just a few rows back from the R2 door. It was brilliant, and i am hoping to get back on one. I would also like to get on an A319. My understanding was that they operated the 06:05 flight in the morning?

Thanks
Mike

The early morning flight is nigh on always an A321. A319s are quite rare, but seem to appear occasionally.
