There is a 763 inbound to BOS (from over the atlantic) for arrival according to PASSUR. Anyone know if this is an AZ flight or a diversion?

Two of our nightly arrivals for FX were cancelled. Heavy weather in MEM and we couldnt get either DC10 in two nights ago. We also missed out MD11 last night into AUS, but ended up getting a sub A300 and a DC10 to load.

I would love to go get some pics down at DCA. I live in the Maryland suburbs north of DC and we got about 20 inches of snow here, and it is still flurrying on and off and very windy. It would look awesome to get some pics today or tomorrow! Hopefully at least someone can get some.

How do airlines cope with this? I mean, if Delta had to cancel their international flights from Europe-JFK today, then there will be double the amount of passengers for the flight tomorrow. So how do they handle this extra demand?

As for me, I'm in DC and I can hear planes taking off from DCA now.

Is it still snowing in NYC? Once it stops, is it as easy as plowing the runways/taxiways to restart operations?

Our airport in Manchester, NH (MHT) is apparently open to flights willing to try. And what never ceases to amaze me is that, often, it is the flights by SOUTHWEST AIRLINES that come on in. You know, the same SOUTHWEST AIRLINES that people mocked ('Oh...wait'll they expand into the northeast and all that winter weather; they'll NEVER hack it!!').

Today, MHT has received the following mainline jets. All--AHEM--Southwest:

Flight 845 from Tampa
Flight 2137 from BWI
Flight 2149 from Pittsburgh (not sure what THAT's all about)
Flight 2601 from Orlando
Flight 2560 from Orlando.

As of 2:55pm, other flights are enroute, including those from MDW, and BWI.
(source: FlightAware).

I expected that Bangor, Maine would get a fair bit of action. But the storm will likely dump snow there, too. Only diversion seen is a CargoLux 747-400 from Luxembourg to JFK that backtracked up to BGR after failing to get into JFK.

Most of them are still heading for JFK hoping the weather will clear by then. AF22 from CDG was the closest (original ETA around 3pm) but is now diverting to YYZ. DL119 from CDG was still making a path for JFK but it looks like it may have to divert now as well (it's over upstate NY now).
DL83 from NCE, DL73 from IST, BA175 from LHR, AF6 from CDG all seem to be staying the course for now.

Well after Midway, I don't think anyone doubts SWA's testicular fortitude when it comes into flying at-mins approaches in heavy snow... so I don't know what you meant by that comment. SWA has been in the Northern climates for many years now.

By the way, I was listening to boston approach during JBU444's arrival. The controller said they were only the 5th aircraft to land at KBOS today, 1 being the AZ flight, the rest all being B6.

Oh, I know exactly what I mean. I am talking about BEFORE the northeast expansion (there was a 'before,' you know). When Southwest meant places like 'Dallas' and 'Phoenix' and 'Las Vegas' and 'Albuquerque.' That was what Southwest meant to people. And there were MANY critics that quietly laughed at Southwest for 'daring' to come into cold, winter climates like the northeast.

And since then Southwest has been through things like the 2003 Presidents Day snowstorm, the Chicago storm 2 months ago, and numerous others... so no need to stir up a koolaid pot for this storm. We're all well aware that WN has been in the Northeast for years. If you want to go to "a 'before' you know" at one point Southwest never went beyond Houston, Dallas, and Austin, either.

Global warming or global freezing?

Probably global warming if I had to choose between the two. This storm had the benefit of alot of moisture and energy from the Atlantic, where waters temps are above normal due to the very mild (so far) Winter along the east coast of the USA.

Remember, global warming not only means the average air temperature is going to be higher, but also that there will be more energy in the atmosphere available to storms (like this one).

ORD isn't bad in fact it is doing pretty since so many flights to the Northeast are cancelled which means that the airport has fewer planes to deal with so deicing isn't a bid delay.

Indiana/Illinois got the extreme edge of the storm. It has been snowing on and off for the past day or so, but there is only a dusting of snow on the ground. The Midwest escaped any bad snow.

SAS SK903, ARN-EWR, SE-REE, diverted to Montreal (YUL), landed 12:40 local time and took off again 15:10 and landed at EWR 17:30.

SK909 from CPH, OY-KBN, landed only 45 mins late at EWR, 16:00LT.

Switch of a/c planned at EWR but both are now delayed due weather conditions.

I knew something was going on when I saw a plane bigger than a 757 parked over at the WN/US/random charter gates (A gates?). I was driving by and was like wtf, is that plane overshadowing that 737! Too bad I didnt catch the takeoff or the 764.

He was parked at the int'l gate A-14 while a 752 was at A-11. Both are common use int'l gates typically used by Air Services for charters. WN is on B. The 764 from BRU also used A-14 before being towed to C-5 as did the 2nd 777.
