Changes To Qantas International Economy Class

Thu Feb 16, 2006 5:48 pm

Hi All

The end of March 06 sees changes to the Qantas International Economy Class product offering. Some good changes coming and they include :

* Premium Herbal Teas and Cadbury Hot Chocolate
* Warm Bakery items for all main meal services
* Continual refreshments during the flight - including fresh fruit and snacks
* Hot towels before the meal service
* Flight Attendants wearing aprons for a bistro-type meal service
* Name recognition for some frequent flyers in Economy Class

Looks like some welcome changes for down the back customers.... lets see how well received the changes are !

Cheers
Industrybuff !

Might have started already (in part) as on a recent flight AKL/SYD, the flight attendant had a list of passengers, accidentally dropped the list (many pages) and stated "oh well, so much for recognising FF's).

She at least laughed when she said it...
Air New Zealand, nothing else needed to be said...

All the other additions are worth it, but who really gives a toss about being called by name by the F/As??? It shouldn't even have been bothered to be mentioned.....

Isn't Cadbury an English company? From Manchester? on Bournville Lane (or something like that)???

Yes, Cadbury is based in the north of England, Bournville I believe is right, near Birmingham. I believe they have merged or been acquired by Schweppes.

which.. if my geology classes were correct... is not in New Zealand.

But no, I know where the misunderstanding has come from, there is a Cadbury factory in Dunedin. Easy mistake to make i suppose. Didn't know they served Kapiti Icecream on UA though

I agree, I would prefer some extra seat pitch and a power port like BA have in WTP+........serves a much better purpose!

Agreed, even in the new 744ERs, a 14 hour trip from the US to Australia is torture with their current pitch.

And if Geoff had his way that would be all they would be wearing as an economy measure to make up for the expense of the hot chocolate!

If I am not mistaken, the headquarters of Cadbury Schweppes plc are located in London. I believe Cadbury had been looking last year to sell the European operations of its soft drinks unit (the Schweppes side of the business), and now the price of the shares of the company is going up because Cadbury (thanks to its candy/chocolate business) is perceived as a likely takeover target.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I think it is very interesting that QF is upgrading its service. I think they want to make sure they remain competitive in the kangaroo route and the Oz/N.Z. to California market. I hope I will have one day soon the opportunity to fly with QF!
Upcoming flights:
April/May: AM MEX-SCL 788 (J), AM EZE-MEX 789 (J).

yah..I'm not too happy about this, in fact, I might even fly on AA from SFO-HNL then HNL-SYD on QF's 763 to limit the "pain"...

maybe I'll just give my business to UA and go for economy+ (info from seat guru), however, I would be losing tons of AA FF miles then. Sad

I am really surprised that Qantas does not offer a premium economy product, if they did not sell all the seats prior to take off they could offer them at check in and also at the gate for a flat fee to upgrade. Lets say they had a premium section on the aircraft and it had roughly 40 seats, if they offered that for a $300.00 additional fee over what you already paid each way, that is an additional $12,000.00 each way per aircraft.

I would definitely fall over my own feet in order to get one of those seats. SYD-JNB (14h) in Y-class is sheer torture.
