Spirit Of Delta Final Farewell Tour

Tue Feb 21, 2006 8:24 am

So tomorrow kicks off N102DA's final days of flying. The first and last 762 for Delta to fly does its final flights over the next few days as it tours the country. Here is the schedule again for those who don't know it:

Date Day Cities
21-Feb Tuesday ATL-MCO
21-Feb Tuesday MCO-FLL
22-Feb Wednesday FLL-CVG
22-Feb Wednesday CVG-JFK
23-Feb Thursday JFK-BOS
24-Feb Friday BOS-ATL
26-Feb Sunday ATL-SLC
27-Feb Monday SLC-LAX
28-Feb Tuesday LAX-BFI
01-Mar Wednesday BFI-PAE
01-Mar Wednesday PAE-DFW
03-Mar Friday DFW-ATL

Who's going out to see it? Who has seats on board the flights? I would go to MCO to shoot a pic of it tomorrow but I have to go to class  Sad . If you go and see it over the next 13 days, post the pics and/or your story here to share it with us. So long N102DA!

Oh my goodness! I am going to be in Seattle next week, and my friend that I will be with (RoseFlyer) does general aviation out of BFI. It would be awesome to see The Spirit of Delta up close and personal. Does Otto or anyone know when it is scheduled to arrive at BFI?

I was notified today that I'll be on the LAX-BFI flight. Parties on both ends followed by a tour of the Boieng Museum Of Flight. I can't wait.

I'm curious.. why's she going to Boeing Field then to Paine Field? She taking one last look at home before the retirement? Man, if I had those days off I'd drive up there to see her.

Not sure when it will arrive at BFI, but I know it will depart at 9am on 1Mar to PAE. The reason I know that is that I will be on the flight, as well as the continuing flight to DFW.  Silly

If I got the information correctly, she will visit BFI and the Museum of Flight there in SEA, load up the folks for the barnstorming tour, and head to PAE, since security reasons prohibit folks from being cleared onto Boeing property in PAE. We will get a personal tour of the Everett facility, lunch courtest of Boeing, and then head off for the flight to DFW. I guess you could see it as one last look at where life began for her before retirement.

From what I heard as of Friday 102DA was still being repainted at DL Tech Ops in ATL with a ways to go. Can any DL folks confirm she is all done and Tuesdays schedule is on schedule ?

Thanks

They'll be a "circle flight" around each city. As to the actual route, I have no idea. That's all they've told us.

B,

Thnx - if you get any info before Weds/Thursday's flight into the NYC area, please let me know, would love to see her fly around (if I can step outta work for a moment).

Oddly enough the Agency I work at used to do the advertising for DL, but we lost the account the year before I joined them!

Thanks,

I'm sure the media will probably know something a couple days ahead of time. We all know what happens when people see airliners flying in low over Manhatten these days. They've already had a few scares with returning soldiers getting good views from an airline that decided to make a low pass.

Just found out yesterday about my flight and signed up. Now I better get those days off and may just buy a ticket to SEA the day before just to make sure I get there.

Is that so? You know, you always talk a lot of smack about that and to be honest, since the only camera I have is my little digital one......well......I guess I'd have to agree with you there. Honestly, wanting me to take pictures is like hiring Stevie Wonder to shoot the Wimbledon matches.

In Seattle in February/March the weather is almost a given as cool in the 40s, overcast with a possiblity of drizzle. Not that bad to live in, but no good for quality photographs.

I'll likely be at Boeing Field that day. Do you know what is going on at the Museum of Flight? I'd be curious to know as I used to work and volunteer there and still have my badge and can go anywhere there including to the behind the scenes stuff.

For those in the know...will these final flights be available for REV, NON-REV or are they INVITE only? As a OO employee do I have any chance of getting on from SLC-LAX or LAX-BFI?

I gotta get a bunch of assignments in before Spring Break comes. I can't afford to miss any days, especially for the sake of aviation. Not to mention, the weather sucks today. Its been overcast, sunny, overcast, sunny, partly cloudy, etc, etc. Back and forth. I would've liked to see the Spirit of DL one more time but it just wasn't meant to be. It leaves MCO in an hour and a half, the exact moment I walk out of school and into my car.

so basically it is flying the routes and then doing little hops back and forth as well. How can customers get on this? Is it just sitting at D4 open to the "public"*

*those with tickets because of the damn TSA.

I have always kept track of the tail numbers of the airliners that take
me somewhere. On May 4th, 2003 I flew in N102DA from ATL to New
Orleans with my son Charles. My ex was with us but boarding
we rec'd a call that her father had just died so she went back to ALB.
Glad to say I flew on 'ole N102DA.

Does anyone know when Ship 102 will be back in FLL? I was at the 9L viewing area from 14:25 to 15:05 waiting for it to arrive (scheduled for 14:45), but having a class back in Boca meant I had to leave early. The plane was 45 minutes late arriving into FLL, so I didn't catch it. Now that I have some more time, I am considering driving back to FLL sometime before midnight so I can see one last time. I am assuming the Hibiscus garage will be the place to be then.
