AA Lie Flat Seats To DUB
I read at the weekend that AA re set to launch lie flat seats on their ORD-DUB route later this year. Am I right in thinking that the 767 they currently operate on the route does not have lie-flat business seats? If so does this mean they are changing their business cabin or will we see a 777 on the route?

AA is upgrading their 767s, but it's a slow and gradual process.
I'm not sure when the first one is due to take to the sky.. but I think it's at least a few months, and one would assume that DFW-LGW-RDU-LGW (do I have the routing right?) would be the first route/767 to get it.

American is going to convert one 767 in the coming months, and fly it around the system for awhile to "test" it out, whatever that means. As with following conversions, I doubt this aircraft will confined to one route.

Are the business seats from their 772s or are they brand new?
Will be on AUS-ORD-DUB 12 May this year. Hope they have the new seats by then!

The business seats in the 763 and 772 are basically the same, barring width. This represents the introduction of an entirely new seating product for AA's business class. I still wonder when we will see this seat, considering that it has been anticipated for quite some time. Any ideas?

To be honest the C-Class seats on the 762, 763, 772, M80, 738 and the alternative cabin on the A300 all look exactly the same to me. I know that the 738 has different ones, but they still look the same to me.
I would have thought that the 772 should be the first aircraft to get the new seats, as AA's Business Class product is not even in the same league as some of the European carriers. I can't imagine anyone choosing AA C over the J class cabins of BA, VS, LH and the like.

There's a notable narrowness to the 767-300 J setup over the 777-200.
It's not just the seat width itself (which I notice, but isn't a huge deal) but the "on center" distance between the seats is a LOT less.
What this means is that you are jostling elbows with your seatmate. And if you don't sit pretty much straight, and lean to the center, you encroach on them as well.
Obviously, 767 J is better than Y, but I'd sacrifice the few exta inches of pitch to not be bumping my seatmate.

The business class seats are entirely new. It's a product AA has been working on for the past five years with extensive testing and feedback from e-plats in Dallas. The first aircraft will be flying the system beginning in April or May. The rest of the fleet will get the new seat beginning in the fall. The change over should be complete sometime in the first quarter of '07. Then the 777s will get the new seat.
The 767 is getting the new j-class product before the 777 because the 777 has a superior product offering in first class. J-class is the most superior product offering on 767s and is therefore being replaced in order to fill the gap. Not only are new seats being installed on the 767, but new sidewalls and overhead bins (777 style) and a new entertainment system will be installed as well. No changes for coach, however.
The new j-class cabin on the 767 will also feature a cross aisle in the front of the cabin... something flight attendants and passengers alike have wanted from the beginning for easier access to the lavs, without walking through the galley.

That's because they are. J-class seats on the widebodies are F-class seats on the narrowbodies, with the 757 being the exception.
