SXM Takeoffs On 27?

Wed Feb 22, 2006 7:18 am

With the rumor of AF sending 772/773 into SXM and the constant debate of takeoff performance of 777 v. A340 v. 744 etc, are takeoffs on 27 ever performed to avoid having to clear/avoid the mountains on the 09 departure? Just for curiosity sake, any arrivals on 27 that anyone knows about?

Arrivals aren't the issue, and there are no landings on 27, at least nothing bigger than Twin Otters from what I've heard.

Check the photo database and you'll find many photos of 27 departures at SXM, including AF. Although, in these cases I beleive it was rare westerly winds that caused the switch.

Aircanada333, I made my first and for now only trip to SXM at this time last year and loved it, but aside from a Twin Otter I did not have the pleasure of a 27 departure, I had seen plenty of photos but never a video, thanks for sharing with us, those videos are awesome !

Thanks Again

I was in SXM for twice and on both I saw many takeoffs from 27.

With reference to landings, I saw an Amrijet B722F landing on 27, wich was very unique.

Cheers.

Hey that's nice I thought that only small plane could be landing on rwy27.
Thanks for the information! It does give me one more reason to do a trip in SXM.

It was very low. But I heard that a couple years ago, a L1011 did a very low approach and then touch the fence.  Wow!
