Deceiving Non-stop Routes

Sat Feb 25, 2006 6:09 pm

It is totally miss-leading when airlines, such as Air-Berlin, list flights flown by them supposedly to be non-stop.
For example, Air Berlin has 5 non-stop destinations from ZRH ( HAJ, TXL, HAM, DUS, PMI, and VIE with FlyNiki) but on their website they list over 30. Only in the end do they tell you (right before you pay for the flight), that a certain flight actually goes via one of the 6 cities I listed above. During the booking process it even marks the flights as non-stop with an "x".

Maybe AB is mixing up the term nonstop flight with direct flight. Direct flights are those where you go to a destination, make a stop somewhere on the way but don't change planes. It could be indeed misleading, since most passengers will think direct flights are always nonstop, and that's not true.

But these flights aren't even "direct flights", they are 2 different planes. The flight from ZRH-MAN has a 5h20min connection time in HAM.

The Air Berlin site does state at the bottom of the flight options page that "x=via". Which in my book means you'll be changing planes somewhere.
