SAS - New Routes To Asia (HKG & PEK)

Thu Mar 09, 2006 7:19 pm

According to Jørgen Lindegaard/Dow Jones, within a year, SK will...

1. Launch a new route ARN-PEK

2. Relaunch CPH-HKG (!)

Great news if it's true, SAS will probably need some more widebodies though.

I think they'll order one 787 and one 350, but will buy a 767 or MD-11 as an interim-solution first.

Great news! Where did you see this?

Why not a B747SP or a Tristar?

On a more serious note, I think the A332 would fit the ARN-PEK route very well.

from todays di.se: (sorry only in swedish)

"SAS vill öppna
nya linjer till Kina
2006-03-09: Karin Grundberg

Men SAS nästa nya rutt blir just Stockholm-Peking”, säger Jörgen Lindegaard.

SAS next new route will be Arlanda-Beijing (maybe later this year) and then Copenhagen-Hong Kong.

Great news if true.

It is intesting what equipment they'll use. Of course, they cancelled the BKK-SIN tag, but will they be able to squeeze one extra rotation ARN-PEK into the schedule? Does anybody know how tight their schedule is?

And for relaunching CPH-HKG, I suppose they need one extra plane for sure. How soon can they get another 332? Or will they drop existing routes?

I read somewhere that the plane will stay in BKK for some technical checks during the time that it used to fly BKK-SIN-BKK. That will save some hours of technical work at CPH, bot not nearly enough for an extra flight to Asia.

Quoting Joost (Reply 5):

They don't have any A332 today, so they have to get the first before they can get "another." I think that CPH-HKG would be to stretch the A332 range a little bit too far, but ARN-PEK would be perfect for the A332. But then again, I don't know if SK can afford to invest in new long-range planes today. Maybe they will cancel some SEA flights and use that equipment on the HKG flight?
