Fri Mar 10, 2006 5:25 am

Hello,
Does anyone know what ual domestic flights are currently or will soon be operated on the 747? I know that there are usually a few out there. I am specifically looking for ones in or out of IAD, but any are welcome. Thankyou!

UA924 on the IAD-LAX run usually switches to a 744 for 2-3 months during the summer.

There is usually a DEN-LAX and/or DENSFO rotation during the summer.

Don't they do a ORD-LAX run too, as part of a long-haul trip ?

Not so much any more. They used to often continue the Australia flights to ORD, but usually LAX-ORD 3-class aircraft are 777s

There are also 3-class 767s that often run between ORD and LAX. The 5pm departure from ORD to LAX is usually a widebody.

The 747 flights are definitely pretty rare nowadays. 5-10 years ago there were tons of 747 flights (mostly 742s) flying domestically, but you are lucky to find a single domestic flight now, especially with an emphasis on international routes and with the widebody fleet shrinking due to lease returns.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I am scheduled to fly ORD-SFO on April 1st at 5:00PM and the confirmation lists the equipment as a 747-400.

The 5pm is a 3-class 772. The 3pm is a 2-class 763

UA pulled the 744 off the LAX-IAD route during the middle of last summer, using it only at the beginning and end of the summer travel season. Also, it is usually UA946/947 that is the 744. Most of the year UA946/947 is a 3-class international 763 although somtimes it is an international 772 and during the low season it is a 752.

Hmm...it appears that UA256 ORD - DEN is also going to be a 744 on April 1. However, the printed timetable still shows the flights as 777's. Before I go run and buy a ticket to DEN, what are the odds of the plane being switched out from a 744 to a 777?
