CM To Uruguay

Tue Mar 14, 2006 9:54 pm

A local news paper publish that CM is planning to start Montevideo this year below a quote in Spanish:

Basically:
Uruguayan travel agencies gave the information
Initial plans to fly 3 times a week
No definite date to start operations but expected to be by midyear.

in the american continent only

Canada (expected to be added this year)
Belize (expected to be added this year)
Suriname
Guyana
French Guyana
Bolivia (Plans to start service but not for the foreseeable future)
Paraguay (Applied last year for authorithy to serve ASU)

Plans are under way for a massive Carribean expansion using the E190

Makes a lot of sense to start flights to ASU, you have to make 2 stops to go from Uruguay to many US destinations, even more if you are travelling to the Americas. With CM it is one stop to almost anywhere in latin america and 2 stops to anywhere in the US (via CO)

A freind of mine from montevideo has to fly MVD-GRU-MIA-MCO, with CM it would just be MVD-PTY-MVD with connection times of less than 40 minutes.

I would have guessed it was a typo and they mean Paraguay not Uruguay (ASU not MVD), but I was wrong. Still the rumor is that ASU will happen quite soon, before anybody expects it, and no, the E190 doesn't have the range for PTY-ASU, but it's supposed to have it for PTY-VVI.

How about adding to those destinations: GCM, SCU, PUJ, SXM/ANU, GND/UVF, PTP/FDM, BGI, AUA/CUR....??
But for some of those an E190 may be too much, maybe a E170 from PTY could do better.

American flies MIA-MVD non-stop to offer one-stop connections to just about all major cities in North America. None the less, good move for Copa. Montevideo is a very strong yielding market - fairly wealthy population base combined with limited service, especially internationally.

Supposedly CM has inquired about a PTY-BZE-CUN routing starting sometime next year...4X weekly......no final decision has been made

Methinks it might be successful...espcially a MWFSun setup.......

I know I have to fly to Colombia in April....and i have to go BZE-MIA-BOG....going through PTY would be a whole lot easier......not to mention the number of Columbians and Ecuadorian doing business here has increased dramatically....

Brilliant news. CM is doing a wonderful job in consolidating its Hub de las Américas concept in Panama City. In South America alone, the airline will end up the year possibly serving around 16 different stations, which is to me a remarkable number.

If only AA would offer non-stops between MVD and MIA year-round, it would be more of an advantage. Regretfully it isn't viable, especially during the summer.

It will be viable in due time. AA has very intention of making the fligh year-round in the future.

Excellent if it does take place. Hopefully the flight will perform well-enough to survive the summer season when demand decreases.

Are there proposed times?

Given the distance, I don't think CM can have a 1945 departure south and make the turn in time to hit the morning bank.

Perhaps an 1130am departure south and a return to the same bank the next day.

Any info?

It is already loaded on the GRS (I use Sabre here in my travel agency).
Frequencies are 5 per week (ex. Mo & Th) beginning Sept. 1, 2006.
Flights are as follows:

CM 783 PTYMVD 1125 2035 73G 0

That is, flght CM783, departing Panama at 11:25 and arriving at Montevideo at 20:35 local times with 737-800 equipment. Plane overnights at MVD.

Return is as follows:
CM 782 MVDPTY 1240 1805 73G 0

Hope this helps !

The 737-800 is unfortunately out of question for this task. I'm sure you meant 737-700.

Well, yes, you are right.. I am only stating what the GRS says, but I agree with you totally that the 800 series would find it hard to accomplish the job and it would be far too close to its maximum range.

It should be the 700 series for the sake of accuracy.

Thank you for your remark.

CM 782 MVDPTY 1240 1805 73G 0

This mean CM will keep one precious B737-700 on MVD tarmac 15 hours when they could only keep it 7-8 hours instead if they are to fly morning to morning hub-hour flights and evening to evening hub-hours flights.
CM themselves had limited they potential growth and B737-700/800 use having those aircraft stay 15-16 hours in EZE and GRU before. Hope they not regret having that plane in MVD for so long if they need it at PTY.

According to the GRS, they begin daily services on July 7th thus:

CM 445 PTYPOS 1940 2322 E90 D
CM 444 POSPTY 0739 0940 E90 B

An evening flight with convenient connections from several points in the airline's network (unlike Montevideo, for example, you cannot connect easily to/from Cancun). Operated with Embraer equipment.

CM does fly to Kingston, Jamaica.

Hope this helps.
