Which Airline Has The Best Livery?

Tue Jun 06, 2000 6:07 am

I think that Delta has the best livery, with their newest design. The tail that looks like a flag is a neat feature. Second place goes to United. Which airline do you think has the best livery?

I second the Delta livery. At first I hated it, but once I saw it on all 3 aircraft I was amazed at how good it looked. My second goes to Continental.

You Guys Forget About Twa?

Tue Jun 06, 2000 10:04 am

My favorite is by far TWA's new paint. Delta's new one is nice, but still not a favorite. United's is to dark and dull. Continental is very nice but a little too plain for me. I like American's bare metal color but I see too much of that living here in Chicago. Im assuming these are mainly Delta fans that replied to this topic considering almst everyone said Delta. Anyway, no one matches the color selection that TWA has. None like it

Frontier's livery is my favorite. I think you'll be hard pressed to find something that compares to their creativity. The photo quality images on the tail are the best.

I think US Airways and Continental Airlines have the
best liveries among the US airlines. They are clean,
crisp, and convey the global aspirations of these
two carriers.

United's is bland and needs to look less fussy. UA
should adopt the boldface U N I T E D logo and
perhaps reverse the blue/gray color scheme on
the fuselage.

TWA's new livery is nicer than the old one. AA
is simple and timeless. Northwest's is hideous,
as is America West's, which is plainly vulgar.
Alaska Air and Delta have ugly, boring liveries.

Of the international airlines, Virgin Atlantic's
new livery is cool, if a bit busy, Lufthansa,
Swissair, and Air Canada have nice ones too.

Air Tahiti Nui is certainly a great change from all the white beluga whales one sees at the airport. I caught it at LAX about a month ago. It looks great considering it is on an Airbus product.

Whats so great about a plain white fuselage? the tail is nice. After seeing Delta s new livery on the ramp I have to say its cool. As far as UA US too depressing 4 me, AW ok not vulgar at all try SW for that.

For the classiest and prettiest I would have to choose US Airways and Continental.

For the boldest and most outstanding I would choose America West. It's an awesome livery!

But overall, I would choose US Airways.

Air Jamaica's livery is my favourite. It is just so colourful and lively. BWIA's new steelpan design is a close second - even their old TriStars look cool in it. As for their new 738s, well, it seems that the scheme was designed especially for them.

AA's livery is just timeless and sophisticated. United and Air Canada's schemes also demonstrate a simple classiness to them.

I would also make mention of Surinam Airways whose MD87 and Dash-8 300 are marvellously done in golden yellow with orange accents.

D10RK, I will agree with you. Cathay Pacific's scheme is indeed lovely.

A good airline livery will not just catch the eye, but also reflect the merits of the airline wearing the colors
Alaska's livery is crisp, stylish and eye-catching. The eskimo on the tail works very well---it seems to watch over the plane, radiating a sense of warmth and security (cough, sputter...).

Delta's 2nd and 3rd livery are OK, but boring. The scheme is just paint...there is no real connection to where Delta flies. The same goes with the Northwest livery. Nice, but except for the compass on the tail, the red and grey colors have no relation to the "Northwest"

TWA's livery is very elegant, and while I could use a bit more bold colors to accent the mellow gold and red tones, it conveys the message of being a carrier connecting the world.

Continental's livery is very plain. The globe on the tail is the only part that is interesting.

The US Airwasy livery is eye-catching. The contrast of colors makes it very eye-catching, and the stylish flag on the tail blends in very well with the rest of the scheme.

Air New Zealand's livery is very nice, but other good liveries are Cathay Pacific, Lan Chile, and U.S Airways.

Also I would include Air Canada and KLM.

I don't like the Delta or United Liveries.

There are some great Airline Liveries around at the moment, but my favourites are as follows

1 - South African Airways - Incredibly Stricking Colours
2 - Icelandair - Modern Simplicity
3 - Qantas - Timeless Classic - Seen from Miles Away
4 - British Airways (World Images) - Brave Move and Colourful Collection when on LHR Ramp
5 - Varig - Love the Compass Star

As the preceding posts suggest, there are many excellent contemporary liveries. The one that has stood the test of time, however, is that of Ethiopian Airlines, which looks as fresh on Boeing 757s and 767s as it did on the airline's DC-6s and Curtis C-46s four decades ago.

there are many great styles of liveries around ,one of the best is of Air Tahiti Nui check it out yourselves, Uniteds livery looks like the old one of Canadian airlines, whereas Deltas new look seems more suited to the Russian airline Aeroflot because the design is exactly like their flag.
.....up there with the best!

It is a pity that they stopped abroad flights, so we lost the opportunity to see that marvelous majesty of the silver and blue M11.
Definitely, my favorite livery is the one of the VASP group, which means:
VASP itself (Viação Aérea São Paulo = Aerial Trasportation São Paulo),

simple, clear, serious but colorist and easy to see.

By the way, Delta's latest livery is dark, monotonous and boring,

but that's my personal opinion. I like Delta, I flown with them, I liked their service on board. But this livery shows a lack of imagination, and for me, does NOT remember any kind of flag in any way, as someone wrote, and DOES NOT show anything special or identificative enough to become Delta's specific. Even that tri-colour one that someone called once "provisional test" or "test for new livery" in this same forum, that flown not long ago,

was far better than the definitive one, and DID LOOK like a flag.

But I prefered, BY MUCH FAR, the "classic" livery (let me call it this way),

which is nice, lovely, and, in the case of the L11, even SEXY, but very specially, shows a REAL DELTA on the tail and on the craft itself.

Please tell me something:

Did I misplace the chronologic order of DL's new liveries?
I mean: is the tri-color flag newer than the dark blue tail with the red edge?
If I did it, excuse me.
But in any way, I still prefer, by far, the classical one...

In my humble opinion:
1. Air Tahiti Nui, by a long shot
2. Midwest Express (what can I say, I like blue planes!)
3. Air India, with those cool window designs
4. TWA
5. A sentimental vote for the old red beauties of New York Air, my it rest in peace.

2. Air Tahiti Nui
3. USAirways
4. BA(new Union Jack livery and the World Colors)
5. Qantas (NEVER spelled "Quantas"!)
6. Canadian (Proud Wings livery, with the Canada Goose)
7. Air Canada
8. LanChile (Very original)
9. BWIA (The steel drum livery's kinda neat!)
10. Singapore Airlines

AA's livery is nice, but it needs a change soon.
America West doesn't look too bad. Neither does United.
Northwest's livery is pretty nice, although I'd like to see the NW logo bigger.
Continental - It's pretty nice, actually.
Delta - The newest livery is alright, even fine - I don't much like the oldest livery, and the second newest is even worse!)
Southwest and JMC Air - Oh, man! Get those liveries outta my sight!! They're UGLY!!!!!

I like United's the best because it conveys a professional and business-like attitude. I love how instead of going for a new logo, they revised and updated the livery around the same timeless, classic logo: the "flying U".

Air New Zealand's livery looks really good with the "pacific wave" on the forward fuselage, and with the teal-color on the tale. It conveys an image of the south Pacific.

Aloha's livery I think is perfectly suited to the Hawaiian Islands. The "Aloha" script seems warm, friendly, and inviting (the meaning of aloha) and the Bird of Paradise on the tail is a classic symbol of Hawaii.

Air Canada is pretty much the only airline that doesn't look boring with the "white-whale" scheme. White, red, and evergreen are the colors that pertain to Canada.

British Airways' Concorde livery is the best of the world-tail liveries. The stylized Union Jack reflects Concorde's heritage as a British (and French) made aircraft. I also think that they should have left the other planes in the fleet with the world-tail image. It made their airline more interesting and not so "hard-nosed and British" (no offense to any English people out there).

In my opinon European and Asian carriers have the best liveries. Continental is the only airline in the US with a good livery. These are my favorites:

1: Sabena
2: Air France
3: Air New Zealand
4: Swissair
5: Continental Airlines

I think the best livery ever was South African Airlines old livery. Theres something about the springbok and the orange and blue colors that really takes me. The new SOuth African like every other airline is white body and overly falshy tail. (ie. new Delta, Egyptair, new SAA) and many others.
